Position Title:Personal Support Worker
Reports to: Service Coordinator
Location: Kamloops, BC
Overall Responsibility: Providing personalized 24-hour in-home support for an independent adult male with diverse abilities on a rotational schedule.
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: 24-hour shifts 4 days on, 4 days off (9 am to 9 am)
24-hour Shifts: This position is considered a "Live-In" position per the BC Employment Standards Act. Support Workers are not expected to be awake throughout the night (aside from emergencies) and are provided a staff room/bed to sleep in. If the individual required assistance overnight, the Support Worker would be expected to provide essential support when needed.
Compensation: IMLKS offers competitive wages and benefits, covers meals during shifts, and mileage is reimbursed upon submission. IMLKS also offers training and development opportunities for its employees.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Providing a safe and nurturing environment
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure the well-being of clients
- Provide support and assistance to individuals in their daily activities at home and in the community
- Assist with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Administer medications according to prescribed schedules
- Help with meal preparation and ensure dietary needs are met
- Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Provide companionship and engage in meaningful activities with clients
- Monitor and report any changes in client's condition or behavior
- Presenting the individual in a positive and respectable manner
- Promoting independence
- Assisting the individual with recreational activities and encouraging their participation in community events
- Navigating emergency situations when they arise
- Assisting a person with difficult behaviors through preventative measures and techniques for de-escalation

Job Requirements:
- Must be comfortable supporting an individual with behavioural challenges
- Valid First Aid Certificate *Can be obtained during training period*
- Clear Criminal Record Check *Processed within our office
- Medical clearance form completed by a physician
- Driver's License
- Safe Driving History
- TB test (to be completed within probationary period)
- Must be able to work 24-hour shifts 4 days on, 4 days off - we cannot work around school schedules
- Must be able to provide verification of a minimum of 2 doses of an approved vaccination for COVID-19
- Completion of 2 work-related references
Experience:
- Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is preferred
- Familiarity with assisted living, home care, nursing home, youth or senior care settings
- Ability to handle challenging behaviors with patience and empathy
