Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Owen Sound Gardens
Employment Status: Causual or part-time position. Must be kind, patient,friendly and reliable. Responsible for providing health care to residents, monitoring and recording symptoms and changes in residents’ state of health. Performs health care procedures in accordance with the standards of resident care as set out in the health care manual. Administers medication to residents as required. Team lead for other staff members. Part-time employees will receive a retention bonus of $250. at 450 hours. Part-time employees are eligible for benefits paid for by the employer. Could lead to full-time position.
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
As a member of our Care Team, the Registered Practical Nurse RPN, is responsible for the care of residents in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and standards of the retirement home. This person utilizes the principal functions of nursing services in licensed care and the professional standards of practice of the applicable provincial College of Nurses and assists with the implementation of current company policy and procedures.
BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Practical Nurse with Ontario Certificate of Competence in good standing with the College of Nurses. Must have a current medication certificate. Must be able to communicate both written and orally in English. Persons with experience in a similar position in a retirement home or institutional setting will be given preference.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in assessing the needs of the individual resident’s and organizes for the provision of care to promote maximum resident independence.
Carries out planned assignments as designated by the Manager for effective resident care, taking into account the physical, spiritual social and emotional needs of the individual.
Supervises the care given by attendants or designated staff in accordance with resident care plans.
Distributes medications and provides treatments to residents in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures.
Answers Emergency Calls from residents, giving assistance where possible and contacting professional help and/or family when necessary.
Provides direct resident care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures.
Complies with other infection control protocols as directed, e.g. Outbreak management
Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with residents, families, physicians, and other departments.
Co-ordinates, supervises and provides job guidance to health & wellness attendants.
Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed. Completing all required reports. Assists in completing assessments and plans of care, and electronic documentation.
Assists with implementation and enforcement of all policies and procedures.
Assists in maintaining a neat, clean and safe environment for residents and personnel. Recognizes safety hazards and takes appropriate action. Reports incidents promptly.
Assists with safekeeping of all drugs and nursing solutions in the home.
Reports all incidents and changes in resident status to the Manager and subsequent shift.
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the development of and implementation of a plan of care for residents that supports independence.
Assists the team in evaluation the performance of the attendants; assists with appropriate documentation.Works as a team member
Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers, Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or manager.
Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Completes all required annual mandatory training/education.
Complies with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace safety insurance act and Workplace Hazardous material information system. This includes recognizing health & safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
