Reporting to the Piping General Manager, RF is seeking a G1 gas technician who will be responsible for installation, inspection, repair and maintenance in Commercial and Industrial establishments. This position involves working on a full-range of projects, with multi trades to meet targets.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Ability to work with Commercial and Industrial gas lines and piping systems including installs and start ups
• Conduct maintenance on Commercial and Industrial heating systems, including cleaning and inspecting burners
• Perform safety checks and inspections on controls, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes
• Set up combustion processes and troubleshoot issues related to burners and controllers
• Conduct teardowns, pull burners and inspect tubes to maintain optimal system performance
• Troubleshoot services for ignition failure, water problems and high CO levels
• Install, maintain and service equipment and their components, such as burners, valves and automatic controls
• Reading and interpreting blueprints
• Prepare reports on work performed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

• 5+ years experience serving steam and hot water boilers, burners and associated controls, electrical circuits and combustion piping systems
• Experience working with Industrial boiler and burner systems, burner controls and instrumentation (ie. flow controls, gas controls, actuators, instrumentation, etc.)
• G1 Certificate of Qualification as issued under the Technical Standards and Safety Act is mandatory – OBT1/2 is an asset
• Plumbing or Steamfitting tickets are preferred
• Valid Drivers License
• Previous experience working with Mechanical Contractor
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions:

The standard work week for plumbers/steamfitters is 40 hours (8 hours a day, 5 days a week). As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on the construction sector and region you work in, and will vary from one job to the next.

As a Tradesperson, you may work outdoors and indoors, alone or with a team of other construction professionals. The work can be physically demanding – you may have to stand or crouch for long periods of time, and you may have to lift heavy materials.

As with all careers in the construction industry, safety is the top priority. Plumbers/Steamfitters are trained to work safely and take special precautions to protect against injury.
