Are you a highly organized administrator with an interest in the arts? The Arts Council of Ladysmith and District (ACLD) is hiring a Gallery Coordinator to coordinate the day to day operations of the Ladysmith Gallery, the cornerstone of the ACLD activities.

Who You Are

You excel at organization and planning and are often the go to person to keep things on track! You’re good at managing your time (and others’) and know how to multitask and prioritize what needs to get done. You are detail and systems oriented, and are comfortable working with a variety of administrative and social media platforms. When issues arise, you’re not fazed, you stay calm and work to find a solution. You have strong interpersonal skills and are adept at building relationships with customers, artists, volunteers and other staff members. You communicate in a clear and concise way, and you’re confident in your delivery (you’ll have to say no sometimes).

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Gallery Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operations of the gallery, including working with volunteers to curate shows, scheduling private and member shows, overseeing exhibition and public programs, and liaising with artists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the artists’ exhibition process including submissions, Intake, hanging and outtake.
  • Coordinate ongoing gallery operations including:
  • Observation, and implementation of art handling best practices.
  • Ensuring that the day- to- day operations of the gallery runs smoothly.
  • Working with various teams of gallery volunteers to curate shows, ensure processes are updated and manage the gallery boutique.
  • Liaise with the Gallery Volunteer Committee to ensure coverage.
  • Work with the ACLD executive director, as well as other team members for the design and distribution of publicity materials, including exhibition postcards, e-blasts, press releases, social media, and website updates.
  • Liaise and maintain productive and respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Post Secondary education
  • A minimum of 2 years management experience, preferably in a similar facility
  • Proficient in using a variety of administrative software platforms (MS Office Suite, Google Workspace. Monday.com) as well as social media platforms
  • A satisfactory criminal record check (will be completed as part of the recruitment process)
  • Experience in an office or retail environment would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, art, and traditions would be considered an asset

Additional Information

This is a part time position. Approximately 20-25 Hours a week, starting as soon as possible.

Starting Wages $23.75/hour, with 3 month probationary period.

Wages are paid monthly and include vacation pay on every pay cheque.
