Position Summary: The Garden and SSP Coordinator is responsible for planning, planting and harvesting of the MML garden, as well as coordinating the summer student program and supervising the garden students.
Responsibilities
- Planning of the Garden and the yard
- Planting, cultivating and harvesting crops from the Garden and the yard
- Evaluating plants for signs of stress, disease or other problems
- Recommending planting designs, and layouts based on available space, sunlight requirements and other considerations
- Coordinate the summer student program onboarding process and paperwork
- Recruit summer students willing and able to fulfill the work
- Delegate and organize the work to ensure that the contracts are being fulfilled
- Provide mentorship and guidance to the summer students to enrich their work experience
- Complete regular reviews with students to provide positive feedback
- Coordinate with IMC CEO & MML Executive Director to ensure contracts are being fulfilled to the satisfaction of the clients and partners
- Assist the events team as needed
- Other duties as required
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years horticulturist or gardening experience
- 2 years of experience working in a leadership role
- Degree or diploma in horticulture an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
- Time management skills
- High level of ethics and integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA) qualified status
- Fluency in Cree language
