Job description

Reporting to the Logistics Manager or designate, the Gate Attendant - Floater, is a critical contact to IGPC’s customers, suppliers, and guests, and ensures all entering the facility are warmly welcomed. The Gate Attendant – Floater provides support to both the Gate Attendants and Shipper Receivers as needed and will conduct tailgate, product testing and ensure truck traffic is directed efficiently.

The Gate Attendant-Floater will play a critical role in IGPC’s Emergency Response Plan during emergency and/or muster scenarios along with monitoring safety policies and procedures are followed by all on-site.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must have minimum 1 year experience in customer service, logistics, or relevant industry.

Responsibilities


  • Provide coverage to both the Gate Attendant and Shipper Receiver positions when needed.
  • Conduct tailgate product testing and ensure the Quality team is aware of the results.
  • Monitor safety policies and procedures are followed by all on-site and escalate the Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager as needed.
  • Monitor IGPC’s entrance during receiving hours and inform Supervisor or Manager of any urgent matter.
  • Scale in and out all truck traffic.
  • Issue unaccustomed drivers the identification numbers and gather carrier information.
  • Verify scheduled loads with electronic schedule.
  • Assign trucks to appropriate staging lane.
  • Communicate with Shipping and Receiving Team for co-product purchases and chemical deliveries.
  • Provide drivers with copies of the bill of lading and scale ticket when scaling out.
  • Sign in visitors to IGPC and contact their IGPC host.
  • Determine the immediacy and priority visitor needs based on importance.
  • Participate in all musters and/or emergency situations as per IGPC’s Emergency Response Plan.
  • Follow all safety and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Professional and courteous conduct and communication during all interactions.
  • Focus on customer service and support by being a positive resource throughout our visitors’ experiences at our facility.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team in order to complete tasks.
  • Must fully participate in the training required to perform the position.
  • Act as a representative of the company when communicating with customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Form decisions with a commonsense approach that supports the best interest of IGPC.
  • Attend the required shift rotation and provide support to all Gate Attendants and Shipper Receivers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as delegated and assigned.

Health & Safety Aspects

The successful candidate must comply with the health and safety rules defined in IGPC Ethanol’s Employee Handbook. The candidate must comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and use all equipment, protective devices and/or clothing required by IGPC Ethanol Inc.

Use of the following clothing and personal protective equipment is required when performing work outside of the Gate House:

  • 100% Cotton or FR rated Clothing
  • Long Sleeve Shirt
  • IGPC approved safety work boot (CSA approved; steel toed, minimum 6” high etc.)
  • Hard hat (except in clearly defined office areas)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Hearing protection (where required)
  • High visibility clothing (uniform/vest/coat)
  • Respiratory protection (where required)
  • Other PPE as required

The successful candidate must fully participate in the training required to perform in the position. This includes, but is not limited to, worker health & safety awareness, forklift, aerial work platforms, confined space entry & rescue, first aid training etc. This position requires the candidate to be clean shaven to ensure a proper seal when wearing respiratory protection. Candidate must be aware of vehicle traffic, such as fork-lifts, pay loaders, and tractor trailers.

Mental and Physical Effort


  • The position requires multi-tasking while maintaining focus of all steps in the process. The Gate Attendant - Floater must display strong attention to detail and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • The Gate Attendant - Floater must be able to work independently and demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.
  • At times can be moderately physically demanding. Physical Requirements include walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, sweeping, and performing work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Auditory distractions may include conversations between colleagues, phones ringing, alarms sounding, motors running, and other loud noises. Visual distractions may include the movement of people, vehicles, or objects.
  • Communication is essential so the candidate will need to have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to prioritize tasks/situations and recognize when to self-address or escalate to management.

Working Conditions


  • Outdoor activity in all weather conditions.
  • From time to time will be exposed to long work hours and potential non-standard shifts.
  • Will work both in an office and warehouse/storage setting and throughout the facility as required.
