General Assignment Reporter

Do you like to know what’s happening in your community and enjoy telling stories of the people of our community? Do you have a passion for how local government works? Do you like to write in your spare time, or do you have a background in writing?

Energeticcity.ca is looking to add a General Assignment Reporter to our team. Even if you don’t have a background in Journalism, we are looking to hear from you.

In this position, you’ll be responsible for helping to report on day-to-day news in Fort St. John and the rest of Northeast B.C. This can include everything from RCMP reports to donations to our local food bank.

The qualifications listed below are ideal for this position. However, we are open to interviewing candidates without these skills who are passionate about telling stories and are proficient in reading and writing. We would love to see someone local from the community fill this position, but we will consider all applicants.

About us

Our company owns both Energeticcity.ca and the local radio station Moose FM. We are one of only a handful of independently owned and operated media companies left in Canada and are located in a young and vibrant community in Northeast B.C.

We have a team of five journalists working to cover Northeast B.C.

An ideal candidate will be:

• Informed, interested, enthusiastic and engaged.
• Someone who can find the news and understand even the little stories deserve the same coverage as the big stories.
• Able to generate, write, and deliver news stories focusing primarily on local and regional events and information.
• A great writer who can summarize even the most difficult stories.
• Able to work with social media and understand a WordPress website.
• Great with a camera to help capture those news stories as they happen.
• Committed to charitable work and community involvement.

Job requirements:

• Write stories for our website energeticcity.ca and Moose FM.
• Research and publish at least four stories a day.
• Fill in as needed in other areas of the news department.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $40,000.00-$47,000.00 per year
