POSITION: GeneralMaintenance Worker
TYPE: Full-Time
LOCATION: Yarmouth, NS
(75 hrs per bi-weekly pay)
POSITION SCOPE:
The General Maintenance Worker will provide a full range of building, equipment and grounds maintenance. The successful candidate will have above average problem-solving skills, professionalism, integrity, and be available for all shifts - days, evenings, occasional nights, weekends, and holidays. They will enjoy interacting with the residents and are expected to participate in enriching lives every day. The General Maintenance Worker reports to the Maintenance/Facilities Manager and is required to work in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, Standards, Policies and Procedures of The Meadows. While our mask and Covid vaccination mandates have been lifted, the Team Member may be required to wear a mask for the duration of their shift in the event of an outbreak. We also encourage our Care Team members to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 and Flu viruses. The Meadows is a member of HANS group of Employee Benefits Plan and NSHEPP pension plan.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:
- Demonstrate sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with those who live in our home and lead others who work in our home to enhance resident's social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs
- Grade 12 Education or life experience equivalent with minimum of 5 years maintenance experience; preferably in a health care setting.
- Experience working with electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and promote Occupational Health and Fire Safety Standards.
- Some knowledge of maintenance standards for Nova Scotia Long Term Care facilities
- Above average interpersonal and judgment skills; able to accept supervision but work independently
- Well organized, self-disciplined, and resourceful with ability to plan and set conflicting priorities
- Strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instruction.
- Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to residents, care team members, and the facility.
- Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting (moving furniture and materials), bending, stretching, with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
- Experience using computer applications
- Reliable team member regularly attending assigned shifts.
- Great team player, willingness to take on care duties of facility pets, plants etc as required.
- An ability to diagnose problems and implement solutions.
- A valid drivers license
- Ability to spread positivity and stamp out negativity
WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO HAVE:
- Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing and or HVAC courses.
- Previous experience working in a health care environment.
- Previous experience with appliance repair
- Previous experience with low voltage and communication systems (IT, Nurse Call, Access Control, Video Surveillance etc.)
