Grant Writer - Contract Position - 1 year

Department: Finance

Job Overview:

As a Grant Writer, your primary responsibility is to play a crucial role in securing funding for our organization by preparing compelling grant proposals and applications. Your role is integral to the success of our mission, as you will be instrumental in identifying potential funding opportunities, crafting persuasive narratives, and presenting our organization in the best possible light to grant-crafting persuasive narratives, and presenting our organization in the best possible light to grant-making entities.

Duties:

Research and Identify Funding Opportunities:

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grants, fellowships, and funding opportunities that align with the organization's goals and projects.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, funding landscapes, and government initiatives to maximize funding potential.

Proposal Development:

  • Collaborate with program managers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to gather information necessary for compelling grant proposals.
  • Develop clear, concise, and persuasive grant narratives that effectively communicate the organization's mission, objectives, and the impact of proposed projects.
  • Customize proposals to meet the specific requirements and guidelines of different funding sources.

Grant Application Submission:

  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality grant applications, adhering to deadlines and submission requirements.
  • Manage the entire grant application process, including coordinating with internal teams to gather necessary documentation and supporting materials.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with potential funders, foundation representatives, and other key stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with funding organizations to address inquiries, provide additional information, and build rapport.

Grant Reporting:

  • Collaborate with program managers to collect and analyze data for grant reporting purposes.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate reports on the utilization of grant funds, project outcomes, and other relevant metrics.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of all grant-related activities, communications, and documentation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay informed about best practices in grant writing and fundraising.
  • Proactively seek feedback and identify opportunities for improvement in the grant development process.

Key Accountabilities:

Grant Acquisition:

  • Secure a minimum of 5 grants annually, contributing to the organization's financial sustainability.
  • Achieve a success rate of 60% in grant applications submitted.

Research and Opportunity Identification:

  • Regularly identify and pursue at least 1 new funding opportunities per month.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of potential grants, including eligibility criteria and application deadlines.

Proposal Development:

  • Submit all grant proposals in accordance with deadlines, with zero instances of late submissions.

Application Submission and Coordination:

  • Coordinate with internal teams to achieve a 100% completion rate for necessary documents and supporting materials for grant applications.
  • Implement a tracking system to monitor and manage all grant submissions, ensuring compliance with specific guidelines.

Relationship Building:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with representatives from at least 2 new funding organizations each year.
  • Receive positive feedback or acknowledgment from funders regarding the quality of communications and interactions.

Grant Reporting:

  • Complete and submit all grant reports on time, with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrate measurable impact through grant reports, showcasing achieved outcomes and milestones.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Maintain a record-keeping system that ensures easy retrieval of all grant-related documents for audits or reviews.
  • Achieve a 100% compliance rate with grant guidelines and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as English, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline is an asset.

Experience:

  • Previous experience with grant writing for a non-profit organization or First Nations organization is required.
  • Experience in developing comprehensive grant proposals, including budgeting and project planning components.
  • Experience in cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with funders, foundation representatives, and other key stakeholders.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to craft clear, compelling, and persuasive written content, particularly in the form of grant proposals and reports.
  • Proficient in conducting thorough research to identify potential funding opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Deadline-oriented, ensuring timely submission of grant applications and reports.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in grant applications, budgets, and reporting.
