Your opportunity:
Communications & Public Affairs develops communication plans and strategies to support the strategic goals of the Faculty of Arts & Science. Amazing things happen here every day and we love to tell the stories about the strengths and achievements of our community. We promote the Faculty’s reputation and support internal communications via internal and external media. Our areas of focus include news and media relations, marketing and design, digital content management and communications planning and output that responds to the needs of our diverse audiences including students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors. Communications leadership and support is also provided for initiatives arising out of the various administrative units within the Dean’s Office.
Working under direction from Director, Stakeholder Communications and Marketing, the incumbent, will be responsible for creating visual concepts for a variety of digital and print communications channels, including social media and the web, as well as signature collateral materials for events and targeted communications and campaigns. Areas of focus include supporting the development of materials to engage potential partners, donors and alumni, current and future students, faculty and staff and other key stakeholders. The Graphic Design Specialist provides art direction and Graphic Design to support the Faculty’s strategic priorities and provides production and stewardship in the areas of design, brand, visual identity.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Developing production schedules, including milestones, critical path, deliverables and reporting
-Determining technical requirements for Graphic Design productions or projects
-Creating and producing Graphic Designs that reflect departmental and/or divisional objectives
-Consulting with and advising clients on Graphic Design
-Verifying that all marketing/communication collateral adheres to brand identity and University style guides
-Performing design processes that require great precision and attention to many details
 
Essential Qualifications:
-Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in graphic/digital imaging; or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
-Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience in Graphic Design / communications using a variety of graphic techniques and methods
-Demonstrated experience with creating designs that are artistically interesting and appealing
-Experience working on robust campaigns supporting a range of channels: print materials (direct mail, ads), digital assets (emails, digital ads, webpage graphics), social media (digital campaigns) and events
-Experience and knowledgeable in producing a wide variety of marketing materials
-Experience in planning, organizing, assisting in the development of and prepare finished artwork for marketing initiatives
-Experience and knowledge with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and how it relates to creating compliant design materials
-Must have comprehensive experience with design software including InDesign, Photo Shop and Illustrator
-Ability to conceptualize and create original creative concepts for new design projects and execute them within the context of an institutional brand, communication, and marketing strategy
-Ability to develop and execute projects from concept through production
-Exceptional skills and ability to work with Adobe Creative Suites, Adobe Distiller and Microsoft Office
-Ability to think of new approaches to communicating ideas, develop unique designs that convey a recognizable meaning
-Ability to communicate with the leadership team, staff and other designers to ensure that their designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information
-Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work in order to meet deadlines
-Excellent attention to detail and ability to consistently and accurately proof own work
-A strong understanding of the nuances across channels (e.g., print, video, social media, web, mobile apps)
-Ability to thrive in a team, working closely in a highly collaborative team environment
-Comfortable presenting creative concepts and presentations to stakeholders and respond to feedback
