Grounds Person - Part Time Unionized Position With Seiu

POSITION SUMMARY:

The part-time Grounds Person is responsible for the timely and safe completion of assigned landscaping, grounds and building maintenance at any of the assigned cemeteries within the Heavenly Rest family of cemeteries.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

· Locate and prepare burial sites for interments, entombments or inurnments.

· Respond promptly to and complete all daily assigned work orders.

· Install, repair and restore monuments, ground markers, foundation and all accessories associated with memorialization.

· Maintain buildings and garage areas in a clean and organized condition.

· Remove snow and ice from roads, walkways and other areas as directed.

· Work in a manner and wear and/or use the required personal protective equipment consistent with the employer’s directions, health and safety requirements, workplace policies, procedures, legislation and/or the provisions of the collective agreement.

· Interact and communicate with customers, visitors, families, co-workers and members of the management team in a professional and respectful manner.

· Other duties of a similar nature as assigned by the Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

· Minimum of secondary school grade 12 diploma or Ontario accepted equivalent.

· A current and valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.

· Demonstratable knowledge of landscaping, horticultural and/or cemetery grounds maintenance and equipment.

· Commitment to upholding and promoting safe, effective and efficient work practices.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize work while maintaining positive and professional communications with both internal and external customers in a busy and emotionally charged environment.

· Previous training and/or experience in the safe operation of backhoes and/or tractors.

· Reliable and committed to attending to work, including the flexibility and willingness to work varying shifts, including Saturdays.

· A pesticide license is an asset.

· Chainsaw certification is an asset.
