About the Position:

Glencore's activities in the NACAP region (North America, Canada, and the Philippines) include the Horne smelter in Rouyn-Noranda, the CCR refinery in Montreal, recycling sites in the United States (Rhode Island and San Jose), and the integrated copper operations of Pasar (smelting and refining). The NACAP region is currently undergoing significant transformations and improvements through major projects focused on environmental performance, recycling expansion, integration of new technologies for process improvement, and modernization of residue storage facilities.

The region is currently seeking a Health and Safety Director for the major projects group.

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and communicating a vision of zero injuries excellence in health within the major projects’ groups.
  • Developing strategies and plans to achieve major construction sites where risks are minimized and controlled.
  • Leading your team to oversee the Health and Safety aspects of construction related to the company's major project portfolio.
  • Establishing and ensuring the implementation of company and industry standards for Health and Safety in construction work.
  • Implementing a risk management strategy and maintaining records and tracking the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Critical task observation.
  • Overall ensuring compliance of work with company rules, procedures, awareness program, planning, verification, and audit of Health and Safety activities.
  • Working closely with directors and managers of major projects for the implementation of industry best practices.
  • Implementing general and specific prevention programs for different major projects and works.
  • Establishing requirements for safety interactions and verifications, and monitoring the implementation of prevention activities across different projects.
  • Coordinating and supporting project teams in the declaration, analysis, and investigation of events, implementation of corrective actions, and follow-up structure.
  • Developing and measuring performance in Health and Safety for projects and various lots, structuring to provide the expected visibility on performance to different stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing a program for maintaining cleanliness and order.
  • Participating in the continuous improvement program of the department and the company.
  • Establishing a clear, effective, and sustained communication structure regarding the latest information, alerts, achievements, etc.
  • Implementing a program for regular Health and Safety team meetings.
  • Staying constantly updated on industry best practices, conducting comparative analyses with other companies as needed to support the implementation of improvement strategies.

Experience and Professional Background:

  • 10 years of relevant experience in Health and Safety in an industrial environment.
  • Strong technical skills in the field of industrial construction and occupational Health and Safety.
  • College or university degree in occupational Health and Safety and/or a relevant certification or diploma.
  • Any professional accreditation considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and mastery of legislative provisions and standards related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Experience with organizational management and information systems in the field of Health and Safety.
  • Leadership and undeniable skills in strategic, analytical, communication, influence, and change management.

Languages: Bilingual - proficiency in both English and French.
