Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

Position Overview:

The Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, the community and the integrity of our facility's operation. This position involves the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive Health and Safety programs to maintain compliance with heavy production and large metal work, focusing on regulations and standards especially within the nuclear industry. The Health and Safety Officer will work alongside line management to ensure support is provided in achieving zero incident performance in safety, Health and environmental goals as well as enforcing all regulatory and IHSA requirements for the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with local, state, and federal regulations related to nuclear Manufacturing and metal works in Health and Safety.- Act as the company leader in facilitating the company Health and Safety culture and implementation of IHSA certification process.- Identify opportunities to improve safety and environmental performance and makes recommendations based on findings.- Complete onsite Health and Safety review audits and track all incident reports and Health and Safety documentation- Monitor local regulations, client requirements and standards along with company policies and standards to ensure compliance.- Assist with directing accident/incident investigation, reporting and/or facilitation of root cause analysis.- Perform administrative duties as needed.- Coordinate safety training at the project or corporate level.- Coordinate purchasing of safety supplies/PPE- Ensure the facility's operations adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.

Safety Program Development: - Develop and maintain comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique hazards associated with our facility and/or its operations.- Establish safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines to minimize risks.

Hazard Identification and Assessment: Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of the facility.- Identify potential hazards, evaluate associated risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

Training and Education: Provide training to employees and contractors on safety protocols and best practices.- Ensure all personnel are well-informed and trained to respond to emergencies.

Emergency Response:-Develop and maintain emergency response plans specific to any incidents - Coordinate drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.

Incident Reporting and Investigation - Oversee the reporting and investigation of all safety incidents and near misses. - Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

Safety Culture Promotion: Foster a safety-conscious culture throughout the facilities - Promote a proactive approach to safety among all employees.

Safety Audits and Compliance Checks: Conduct routine safety audits to ensure compliance with established safety standards.- Collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.

Documentation and Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, incidents, and training.- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory authorities.

Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance safety performance.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is an asset.- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - In-depth knowledge of nuclear safety regulations and standards is an asset. -5-10 year of previous experience, preferably in nuclear facility safety management is highly desirable.- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.- Proficiency in using safety management tools.

Salary: $80,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
