Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Operator position is a permanent, full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Yard Manager.
Job summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator must be able to operate a straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor type vehicle to lift and/or transport bulk materials to/from storage or processing areas, and for loading/unloading trucks or railcars.
Job Responsibilities:

• Loads and unloads heavy material.
• Strong understanding of material grades.
• Moves levers to grade and sort metal.
• Adheres to pile management procedures.
• Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
• Completes inspection report prior to using equipment.
• Observes and reports any safety issues

Job Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• 2-5 years of heavy equipment operation experience, i.e. rock truck, loader, skid steer, excavator, etc. and 2+ years scrap yard or similar industry experience.
• High school diploma / GED
• Must be able to pass a drug test
• Must have clean criminal record within with the last five years
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Salary:
$25 - 28 per hour
Schedule:
Typical working hours are from 7AM to 5PM Monday to Friday and 8AM to 12PM on Saturdays.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
