Job description

The RM of Springfield Public Works department is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Equipment Operator. The permanent position is required to perform tasks and assigned duties such as:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate hydraulic tracked excavator, aggregate production equipment wheeled loader, motor grader, tandem/semi truck and other related heavy and light duty equipment in a safe and appropriate manner;
  • Ability to work along with the crew to maintain all equipment on site;
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment as well as hazard analysis;
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate equipment safely and frequently to minimize wear, and refill equipment as necessary;
  • Clear debris from around equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation;
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment as directed;
  • Keep management informed of production delays or issues regarding site conditions or equipment;
  • Demonstrated ability to complete complex tasks with precision and efficiency;
  • Snow clearing, ice removal, snow trapping of roadways;
  • Maintain gravel and non gravelled roadways;
  • Operate other Heavy Equipment and other construction related duties as required;
  • All other duties as required.

Job Requirements (minimum standard):

· Experience in the safe and efficient operation of various heavy and light duty equipment, including but not limited to hydraulic tracked excavators, aggregate production equipment and machinery, wheeled loaders, motor graders, tandem/semi-trucks and other related heavy and light duty equipment with the operation of the above noted equipment;

· Minimum Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement;

· Class 1 License with Air Brake Endorsement preferred (must be willing to obtain;

· Willingness to learn on other municipal equipment;

· Strong communication skills;

· Ability to work well in a team environment with other co-workers, supervisors and management;

· Dependable and able to follow instructions;

· Positive attitude.

· Physical strength and ability sufficient to meet job requirements for extended periods under uncomfortable conditions in all types of weather. Appropriate outdoor safety gear is required to be brought to the worksite on a daily basis.

· Subject to frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, talking, seeing and hearing.

· Perform repetitive motions including bending, twisting, stepping, pushing and pulling.

· Employees will be required to climb ladders of various heights while performing the job

functions.

· Ability to stand for an extended period of time without a significant rest period.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

· Employees must regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

· Work extended hours or weekends when required.

Work Environment

The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles , and outside in all weather conditions. Frequently exposed to extreme heat (above 90 degrees Fahrenheit). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $30.39 per hour

Expected hours: 44 per week
