The Pas & other Western Region Locations

Under the direction of the Area Fire Manager, the Helitac Officer (FR4) is responsible for the management and organization of the helitac base providing leadership and supervision to Initial Attack Crews on a daily basis. The Helitac Officer (FR4) is responsible for initial attack of wildfires, coordinates, implements and directs wildfire suppression strategies, tactics, training and participates in both provincial and national deployments as and when required.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 driver's license
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties required of the job including lifting up to 60 lbs
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends, and be deployed provincially, inter-provincially or internationally

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience working as a Crew Leader/Crew supervisor on an Initial Attack wildfire fighting Crew.
  • Experience interpreting fire weather, fire behaviour, and implementing wildfire suppression tactics.
  • Experience in fire equipment maintenance and usage.
  • Supervisory experience providing training, guidance and performance management.
  • Experience working in or with aircraft related to wildfire-suppression.
  • Experience demonstrating strong leadership skills.
  • Verbal communication skills.
  • Written communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook and Excel.
Desired:
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Fire Program policy and procedures, operational guidelines and administration practices.
  • Completion of Crew Leader S200 training and other wildfire suppression courses.

Duties:
Reporting to the AFM or designate will organize and co-manage the day to day activities and operation of the an Initial Attack Fire base. This includes the direct supervision of assigned Initial Attack Crews - including manpower, equipment and aircraft resources.
