Job Title: High School Math and Science Teacher (Tsay Keh Dene School in Northern BC)

Tsay Keh Dene is a remote community located in Northern BC Rocky Mountain Trench in some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the world. Job Summary : The High School Math and Science Teacher plays a vital role in providing quality education and fostering academic growth in a First Nations community. This position involves teaching Math and Science subjects to High School students, creating engaging lesson plans, implementing effective instructional strategies, and supporting students in their educational journey. The teacher will work collaboratively with the school administration, fellow educators, and community members to create a positive and culturally responsive learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Teach Math and Science courses to High School students, following the curriculum guidelines set by the British Columbia Ministry of Education.

· Plan, develop, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that align with the learning needs and abilities of students in the First Nations community.

· Incorporate culturally relevant content, local knowledge, and traditional teachings into lesson plans, fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.

· Utilize various instructional strategies and resources to facilitate student learning and achievement, including hands-on activities, group work, technology, and real-world applications.

· Assess student progress through a variety of methods, such as assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, and presentations.

· Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their growth and academic development.

· Identify students' strengths, challenges, and individual learning needs, and develop strategies to address them.

· Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking.

· Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents/guardians, school administration, and community members.

· Collaborate with fellow teachers and educational staff to coordinate curriculum integration, interdisciplinary projects, and extracurricular activities.

· Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.

· Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress, adhering to school policies and procedures.

· Stay updated with developments in education, including new instructional strategies, curriculum changes, and assessment practices.

· Support students' overall well-being and development, promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.

Qualifications:

· Valid British Columbia Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).

· Specialization in Math and/or Science (related degree or major preferred).

· Experience teaching High School Math and Science subjects, preferably in a First Nations community or experience with diverse student populations.

· Knowledge of the British Columbia curriculum and educational standards for Math and Science.

· Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices and incorporating Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum.

Benefits:

· Salary: $ 70, 000 - $100,000 depending on experience and education.

· Fully subsidized housing including rent and utilities

· Travel provided from point of hire to Tsay Keh Dene at start of contract, Christmas break and end of contract.

· Moving allowance up to $1000

· 3 weeks paid time off at Christmas

· 2 weeks paid time off at spring break

· Sekani Awareness Cultural Week - school closed for 1 week in May for cultural participation

· Fully furnished housing (including bedding, couches, TV, dining room table and chairs, dressers, all major appliances)

· Use of school 4x4 pickup truck, snowshoes, cross country skis, and a small workout facility.
