Job description
We are currently seeking a Virtual 10-12 Science Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
The primary component of this 0.2-0.4 FTE position is teaching Gr. 10-12 science classes via Zoom on Mondays and Wednesdays. Potential courses include Life Sciences 11, Physics 11, and Chemistry 12. Additional components may include some fully online 8-12 science course teaching and the specific size and composition are negotiable for the right applicant.
Duties & Responsibilities
Create a course overview for the year that links Learning Standards to the planned learning activities for the academic year.
Create a course and program overview in the Learning Management system that meets Ministry of Education Learning Standards through engaging learning activities to be completed between live classes.
Provide formative assessment (if applicable) on student work in class and through the LMS and a summative assessment at term’s end. Report Cards will be finished and ready for admin review by deadlines established before the final viewing by parents and their students.
Serve as an advisor to families and students on issues of RCOA standards, the SLP and Learning Standards. Where issues of advice are beyond the teacher’s ability to respond to, refer the parent or student to RCOA administration or consultants.
Answer student/family email questions within two business days.
Send a copy (cc) of all email communication between teacher and parents and/or students to the Principal of RCOA using archive.hs@rcoa.ca.
Prepare a caring and loving environment in the classroom through proper lesson preparation, clear and ordered directions, and activities that incorporate engaging and enjoyable active, social learning. Should there be a need for disciplinary measures, deal with each child in a loving manner that does not embarrass them but restores self-discipline to the student and order to the class. All matters related to discipline will be reported as soon as possible to the direct supervisor.
Communicate with direct supervisor by email when parents express concerns regarding issues of RCOA or other RCOA staff members.
Send a copy (cc or bcc) of all email communication between teacher and students/families to archive.
Attend meetings as required by the Vice Principal and Principal.
Diligently pursue professional development, including attending in-person 'Orientation' for new and returning teachers in Surrey in late-August plus one 'Collaborative' pro-d session either in Victoria or Surrey.

Experience:
Experience and education related to working with children and youth in schools, educational, and/or recreational settings.
Remuneration:
$48,000 - $77,000 at the specific FTE (0.2-0.4), depending on education and years of experience
