Housing Coordinator

ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation (″AFN″) is a member Community of the Ktunaxa Nation. AFN exists for the Community. Externally, we are here to serve the Community, and internally, we are our own Community, comprised of different departments unified by our Vision, Mission, and Values. We are looking for a talented individual to join our team as a Housing Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Member Services, this position will support all ?akisqnuk Band members seeking to build homes, apply for housing, enforce rent and utility payments, and notify the Senior Administrative Officer of deficiencies in the general housing conditions and rent and utility payment arrears.

The Housing Coordinator’s primary responsibilities include:

· Ensure that housing availability requests received from community members are responded to and applications are processed properly

· Ensure that housing repairs related requests received from community members are addressed and acted upon

· Arrange for inspection of rental units for renovation requirements and work with tenants for annual proper maintenance of their rental units

· Coordinate the implementation of repairs, maintenance and renovations to be carried out on band houses and monitor the progress and the cost of work for the First Nation

· Develop and maintain records of forms and legal documents including building codes, leases, releases and notices, purchase orders, warranty information, etc.

· Develop and maintain a list of preferred contractors for repairs beyond the scope of Akisqnuk Maintenance staff

· Maintain a housing policy

· Compile and maintain operating expense reports and income statements, prepare reports and review rents to ensure payments are made as required and on time

· Assist in the long term planning for major/minor capital projects and provide advice in the implementation of the First Nation Community Plan

· Coordinate the activities of the Housing Committee

· Other duties as required

Qualifications:

· Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Housing Studies, Property Management, or equivalent experience

· Two to three years of progressive experience in administration, report writing and financial reporting, property management, or similar fields

· Experience working with First Nations/Aboriginal/Indigenous communities

· Knowledge of relevant legislation related to housing, and AANDC and CMHC an asset

· Understanding of finance, long-term debt, interest rates, etc.

· Understanding of building code requirements

· Understand basic terminology related to housing maintenance and repair, including general carpentry, landscaping practical electrical and plumbing

· Demonstrated experience working with the organizing maintenance workers and independent contractors

· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

· Excellent attention to detail
