Job description

Job Title: Housing Front Desk
City: Kamloops
Program and Site Location: 433 Tranquille Road
Reports To: Coordinator of Housing Outreach and Intake Supports
Term: Permanent Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm with a ½ hour paid break
Wage Range: $22.02 up to $25.26 based on education and related experience.

The ASK Wellness Society is an Accredited not-for-profit organization. Effective November 1, 2021, the Society requires all employees to be fully vaccinated (as defined by Health Canada). Full vaccination will be required before commencing employment with the Society unless a legal exemption is obtained.

Position Summary: As the Housing Front Desk Worker, you are the first point of contact for community members and clients seeking housing services with a hope of reducing homelessness. Within this role you would work in conjunction with the Housing Outreach Team and assist clients with multiple barriers and challenging?behaviours?in finding appropriate shelter and/or detox, treatment, health services, supportive housing, and market housing.? Service delivery is based on a client centered, trauma informed and non-judgmental perspective.


Typical Duties Include:

Housing Front Desk General Responsibilities

  • Offer friendly, compassionate, and accurate information to community members and clients.
  • Communicate with community members and clients through a variety of channels.
  • Receive in-house requests for assistance, access and analyze the need, make appropriate referrals to staff and community resources.?
  • Provide general clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, answering phones and providing correspondence with community?resources.?
  • Ensure there are updated copies on hand of office forms, brochures, housing intake forms, rental agreement forms, case notes, intent to rent forms, bus schedules, etc.
  • Work closely with community resources (i.e., CMHA, IHA, Friendship Centre, Brain Injury, etc.).
  • Assist with other administrative duties as required, from time to time, aiding in the efficient operation of the Society.
  • Encourage and support Program Participants to live as fully and independently as possible within the local community, providing information, and practical support.
  • Daily cleaning/sanitizing of front office area, kitchen, staff bathroom.
  • Help clients with laundry and shower services, clean client shower area after each use.
  • Contribute to the protection of Program Participants from abuse, and support Participants when they are in distress.
  • When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with on-the-spot overdose response and support and prepared to work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and police in crisis situations.
  • Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around the property.
  • Assist team to maintain complete documentation, verbal and written reports, statistics, and records in files and on ShareVision database.
  • Maintain files and documentation to the COA Standard and when requested, be a member of the COA’s Performance and Quality Improvement team in which you will encourage the organization to use data to identify areas of needed improvement and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all Society supportive standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete Housing Front Desk specific responsibilities appendix A.
  • Other duties which may or may not be outlined in this job description.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Post-secondary Diploma or Certificate in Office Administration an asset.
  • Human Services Diploma, Support Worker/Care Aid Certificate an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, which includes Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency supports.
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources.
  • Understands and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Must pass an acceptable criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 required.
  • Readiness to complete in-house online training within the first month of employment.
  • Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
  • As Program Participants are allowed to have pets, it is noted that this is a pet friendly environment.
