Based out of our Winnipeg office and reporting to the Director of Operations, the Import Division Manager will oversee the operations of their department. This role will primarily focus on the department's business processes, systems, and development. Additionally, they will provide essential support, training, and guidance to their team of supervisors and raters. This includes engaging in discussions for strategic planning, conducting performance appraisals, motivating supervisors to excel, and recognizing their achievements. Responsibilities:

  • Review SOPs for accuracy and alignment with the company strategy.
  • Provide attentive support to staff through internal messaging systems.
  • Make hiring decisions and onboard department personnel as required.
  • Facilitate vacation scheduling with the department supervisors.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations based on key performance indicators and support annual salary adjustments.
  • Engage collaboratively regarding efficiencies and automation to enhance streamlined operations.
  • Partner with the Client Relations Manager to distribute instructions on customized client procedures during the release process.
  • Assure the smooth operation of processes and oversee the timely confirmation of entries.
  • Resolve any internal or external issues that are escalated to a management level.
  • Conduct weekly check-ins with team to address any questions or concerns.
  • Host monthly Import Division staff meetings and supervisor check-ins.
  • Actively engage in mid-management meetings and weekly management briefing sessions.
  • Report overtime or additional pay details for staff to the human resources department for payroll processing.
  • Generate reports on division metrics and staff performance indicators.
  • Occasional after-hour availability for staff support.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive career experience in a customs brokerage
  • Completion of CCS Designation or CTCS Designation is considered an asset
  • Strong background in customs brokerage and classification of goods
  • Lead, Supervisory or Management experience is required

Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian customs rules and regulations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills to manage workload effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to address issues as they arise
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently to complete tasks efficiently
  • Strong team-building skills to mentor and support team members
