The Department of Civil Engineering typically has 200-250 undergraduate, 50-70 graduate students, and 15 faculty members, 3 technical staff, one machinist and three administrative staff. Graduate degrees offered are MEng, MScE and PhD.

Salary Range: $66,834 - $86,881 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Innovation Director provides leadership in the growth and development of two initiatives in the general and complementary areas of building and architectural engineering, and societal impacts of engineering. Each initiative includes significant new program development and areas of research, as well as collaboration with other institutional partners and the engagement of practitioners. These initiatives are expected to lead to the creation of a new Centre/Institute of expertise in these areas.
- Lead the development and execution of the strategic plan with input from an advisory group.
- Create a schedule and budget to implement the strategic plan successfully.
- Manage and track all financials related to the Centre.
- Lead the development of a major proposal for additional federal funding to support the initiatives. Find and secure additional funding as necessary.
- Manage the entire partner engagement process.
- Network with global experts at other universities and research institutions to obtain additional expertise on specific initiatives.
- Organize joint industry-research seminars, conferences and events.
- Lead the communications strategy to attract project investment.
- Support the Research Chair in delivering the research program.
- Identify opportunities for a fee for service, research and development, and training for industry partners.
- Lead quarterly updates to the Board, including research projects, personnel, financials, events and outreach, etc.
- Manage relationships with key funding groups, including NRC-IRAP, NBIF, Mitacs, etc.
- Supervise and manage the performance and expectations of staff.
- Coordinate with other unit leads on staff recruitment and management for cross-funded positions.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- University Degree in Engineering, business, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or a related field.
- 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Recognize professional certifications in the fields of building and architectural engineering.
Additional Strengths
- Experience in the University research environment is considered a strong asset.
- Intimate knowledge of the Canadian and international sustainability field concerning building engineering and its principal players is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to see long-term vision and implement day-to-day operations with the long-term vision in mind.
- Ability to manage people and personnel, including hiring and reviewing performance regularly.
- Strong communication skills, specifically public speaking.
- Ability to address a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to negotiate and act with tact and diplomacy.
