Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Instructional Designer/Senior Training AdvisorSkilled Trades.
Reporting to the Section Manager, Training Technology, Planning & Design, this position is responsible for creating high-quality, engaging, and effective learning experiences for our Skilled Trades courses. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of instructional design in the Skilled Trades sector and is passionate about creating experiential course content for delivery by our Training Specialists that will empower our learners to succeed as Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Protection & Control (P&C) Technicians in our Renewable Generation fleet. While the tactile nature of trades training often demands in-person expertise and hands-on training, we're on the hunt for an innovator who can artfully weave in self-directed and virtual learning opportunities wherever they fit. We're seeking an educator with a profound respect for the trades, coupled with a passion for leveraging cutting-edge technology to empower our learners to thrive.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 
-Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and our trades instructors to identify and analyzing training needs.
-Conduct hands-on task and job analyses, incorporating emerging trades technologies, to determine and develop training programming for our Renewable Generation (RG) Skilled Trades personnel.
-Design engaging course materials alongside our trades instructors that integrate hand-on, virtual instructor-led, and self-directed learning experiences.
-Integrate instructional design theories with experiential learning practices, ensuring content resonates with adult learners.
-Develop strategies aligning RG’s training programs with OPG’s strategic direction.
-Adapt content for a range of delivery methods, from in-person labs to virtual simulations.
-Establish and implement robust evaluation strategies that measure the effectiveness of both traditional and contemporary course materials.
-Create detailed course design documentation, including experiential learning plans and virtual lesson blueprints.
-Prioritize safety in all instructional materials, adhering to regulatory standards. Collaborate with safety experts to integrate critical safety protocols into learning experiences, ensuring that our learners are not only skilled but also safe in their trade practices.
-Foster and maintain relationships with both internal and industry peers, promoting the exchange of best practices and collaborative ideas.
-Advocate for the adoption of modern instructional design methodologies within OPG, educating stakeholders about the benefits of contemporary learning solutions and debunking myths surrounding traditional training. Showcase the success of innovative training methodologies to influence organizational buy-in and foster a forward-thinking learning culture.
-Regularly evaluate program effectiveness by observing course deliveries, providing feedback, reviewing course materials, and making adjustments to continuously meet the needs of the organization.
-Stay updated on emerging trends, methodologies, and tools in training technologies and best practices.  
-Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION
-Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Trades & Technical Training, Human Resources, (or similar) is required
-Course training and knowledge in Adult Learning, Trades & Technical Training, eLearning & instructor-led virtual training are considered an asset.
-CHRL designation or OH&S certification is considered an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in organizational development, training and development, with a focus on adult education;
-Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment
-Proven track record in developing learning solutions in various formats within the Skilled Trades domain;
-Consultative approach, adept at managing diverse training programs;
-Demonstrated commitment to fostering, advocating for, and integrating diversity in trades training design and practices;
-Must have ability to multitask and prioritize numerous deadlines as well as catering to wide variety of clients in different geographical locations at one time.
-Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively;  
-Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge, and experience in building, shaping, and maintaining productive relationships and strong partnerships across business units and among a wide variety of stakeholders and vendors. Looking for a highly collaborative, self-aware, and effective team player;
-Solid business acumen and ability to navigate organization and support systems to deliver results while working in a cross-functional environment;  
-Experience working for an organization with a highly technical workforce/unionized environment is considered an asset;
-Previous experience working for a highly regulated industry such as utilities, energy, mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, or public sector is preferred; and
-Advanced proficiency in Excel, with the ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets.
