Job Description:
-Prepare and update training lessons and other training assignments for various training courses in a technical subject, i.e., electrical and electronics or instrumentation and electronic fields or other specialties, such as: troubleshooting and systems studies, and computer systems, utilizing theoretical and practical application used for instructing trainees and other personnel, including trades, technicians, technologists and engineering employees for the Company.
-Receive assignments and outline of requirements from supervisor.
-Perform necessary field and office research. Maintain an awareness of the continuing development in training personnel and keep abreast of the changing pace of modern technology. Contact knowledgeable and functional personnel to solicit professional and practical views and suggestion for inclusion in lessons.
-Prepare and update lessons according to findings.
-Submit draft copies to Supervisor for approval and incorporate modifications as instructed. Arrange for the production of lesson material and distribute and retain copies as required.
-Instruct trainees and other personnel in the classroom, workshop and laboratories, in one of the subjects indicated in various locations throughout Ontario  where adequate facilities are available.
-Present classroom material and ensure that trainees have an adequate understanding of what is being presented and that learning has taken place.
-Prove through established feedback methods that the lessons have been completely presented.
-Instruct in workshops and laboratories in the areas of skill training required forall levels of development.
-Instruct appropriate levels of, electrical and electronic controls, instrumentation and computer equipment as required.
-Instruct personnel in the proper use and application of hand, power tools,, Transport and Work Equipment operation, survey equipment, meter test equipment, computer terminal operation and repair equipment in order to be able to perform work required by a trainee when in the work place.
-Supervise trainees and others on a continuing basis during their attendance at the classroom, workshop or laboratory.
-Assign work with instructions and direction as deemed necessary.
-Provide advice and guidance during progress and assist in resolving problem areas or clarifying instructions not readily understood.
-Review work assignments during progress as necessary and check work upon completion of assignment.
-Maintain order in the classroom, workshop and laboratory.
-Advise Supervisor of any problems.
-Participate in the preparation and setting of evaluations complete with marking and grading schemes to gauge comprehension, knowledge and preparedness of personnel receiving instructions.
-Forward evaluation to Supervisor and other interested parties as advised.
-Assist others as assigned in setting up workshops, laboratories and other training areas for skill training, including the use of tools and equipment.
-Work with others in developing training aids to enhance presentation of lessons.
-Review lessons developed for instructing to determine where teaching aids could be most effective.
-Recommend the purchase of commercially available items for training purposes and obtain as approved.
-Develop Power Point graphs, charts, etc, and arrange for photographic and/or printing services as required to produce copies, of learning material.
-Establish and maintain an inventory of illustrative materialsor teaching aids for reuse or future application. Collaborate with other training groups in the interchange and shared use of teaching aids or facilities.
-Visit Company sites to observe equipment in operation and the methods, techniques and procedures in practice under current modes of operation in order to be familiar with new and modern equipment and methods.
-Maintain comprehensive records of individual participant attendance, achievement and progress in training. Provide assessment information in this respect to supervisory staff responsible for the total progress, and development of trainees and other personnel intraining.
-Maintain workshop laboratory learning centre equipment, fleet in good working order and take inventory of equipment, tools and consumable items from time to time and report discrepancies to Supervisor for action.
-Provide instruction in appropriate levels of: ADET, MDET, MRDC & Meter Reader Duties. Line layout packages, various metering applications, basic electricity, cable locating, provincial lines work instructions, users guide and conditions of service.
-Extensive travel throughout the province is required.
-Perform other duties as required.
 
Selection Criteria: 
Education:
-Requires a knowledge of the principles and theories sufficient to allow an understanding of the equipment operation utilized at a level to carry out the training activities related to trainees and other personnel.
-Requires a knowledge of computer technology to perform the various software applications used for classroom presentations.
-Requires a knowledge of English both oral and written to prepare and present lessons, examinations, teaching aids and comprehensive reports.
-This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus intermediate related courses.
 
Experience:
-Requires experience in the training delivery
-Requires experience to be aware of the characteristics of such equipment and problems involved in servicing the electrical, electronic, instrumentation, chemical and computer systems.
-Requires experience with computer applications and teaching techniques to prepare and format lesson materials and evaluations.
-Requires experience with the various types of teaching aids and their values to assess and maintain accurate records of student progress.
-Requires familiarity with the organization's structure, the responsibilities of departmental personnel, programs to be taught, the facilities available and the duties and associated supervisory responsibilities.
-A period of over six years, up to and including eight years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
