Overview:
Trade Smart College is the new benchmark in pre-apprenticeship training. We connect great students with forward-thinking employers, and we only admit a student if we have an apprenticeship opportunity for them. By putting professionalism at the heart of our program, Trade Smart graduates will be Day 1 assets to their employers, and will go on to become the next generation of leaders across the industry.
We are looking for two full-time instructors to take this vision and deliver the program to approximately 120 students per year. The instructional team will work with other staff at the college to create a premium training experience for students and employers, based around the professional skills required in the trades.
Position Description:
The Instructor is responsible for supporting the Senior Instructor in curriculum delivery, both in-class and practicums, for six student cohorts per year. Success for the Instructor consists of helping all students build their professional skills in class and have those new abilities translate into superior practicum experiences for students. The simplest measure of success for this position, and indeed for the college, is the number of candidates who move directly into an apprenticeship at the completion of their practicums. The instructor works with the Senior Instructor to ensure that the curriculum is meeting employer needs, and that students are becoming Trade Smart Ready for apprenticeships. This role has supporting responsibility for turning recruits into people who can become elite apprentices.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Senior Instructor to deliver the in-class portion of the curriculum to 6 student cohorts per year.
- Administer the weekly check-in process with students while on practicum to help troubleshoot issues.
- Support the logistics of the student experience for all students, accepting teaching assignments and practicum supervision/coaching from the Senior Instructor to balance workloads.
- Adjust curriculum in consultation with the employer network and the President.
- Work with the Senior Instructor and the President to reach out to non-traditional populations for trades education.
- Engage in research to improve the curriculum as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Must want to advance the mission and culture of Trade Smart College.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple, sometimes competing, tasks with ease.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, in person, on the phone and in written correspondence.
- Must have a proactive approach to the position.
- Must be comfortable with taking initiative and using good judgement.
- Must have a growth mindset and be willing to give and accept criticism so that all members of the college can improve.
- Must have experience in coaching adults in personal improvement and self-leadership.
