What is the opportunity?

The RBC PH&N IC Investments team is responsible for providing guidance and advice on portfolio construction, asset allocation and product fulfillment to the more than 120 Investment Counsellors in Canada. The Research Analyst will support the Investments team with a wide-array of strategic initiatives that will support and enable the growth of our business while maintaining a consistent institutional investment framework to our high-net-worth clients. As part of our dynamic team, you will also be responsible for market/economic research, responding to Counsellor queries and contribution to thought leadership. The ideal candidate would have at least two years of investment-related experience, a strong desire to further their knowledge of the financial markets and portfolio management, strong communication skills, an ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and a genuine intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.

What will you do?

  • Support the Chief Investment Strategist and members of the Investments team with preparation of various analyses, presentations, and commentaries

  • Create macroeconomic and market oriented chartbook that can be updated on a regular basis

  • Conduct adhoc economic/market analysis, and build charts/tables/graphs accordingly

  • Help coordinate and regularly contribute to written publications that are both client friendly and internal only on a recurring basis

  • Develop knowledge of RBC PH&N's investment platform and strategies, and understand how ICs may position these with clients

  • Management and reimagination of our intranet site - a critical distribution channel and hub for our ICs to find valuable updates and information

  • Work with the communications team to enhance the Investments' team distribution channels, and amplify our messaging to the field

  • Summarizing major calls from GAM and other fund managers on our shelf in note form, and disseminating to the field on a timely basis

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree with a focus on a relevant field of study (e.g. Commerce, Finance, Economics, etc.)

  • A minimum of two years of experience in an investment-related role

  • Strong proficiency in Bloomberg; FactSet; Excel / Macros; and PowerPoint

  • CFA Charterholder (or currently working towards)

  • Previous writing/thought leadership experience

Nice to Have

  • French communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Previous experience working with investment advisors/counsellors and/or portfolio managers

  • Familiarity with Python/Morningstar

  • Familiarity with Alternative Investments
