As a Junior Water Management Development Coordinator, you will review and approve irrigation plans and ensure adherence to Federal, Provincial, and City of Calgary legislation, bylaws, and specifications, pertinent to the City's irrigation systems and landscape water features. You will also ensures that new irrigation designs and installations aligns with policies and best management practices arising from the Water Management Strategic Plan. Primary duties include:
- Inspect, test and accept or reject new irrigation systems in the field ensuring that they meet the City of Calgary's specifications.
- Review and approve irrigation concepts, development plans and construction plans submitted by Developers.
- Interpret industry guidelines and best management practices.
- Ensure that the business unit's priorities along with the City of Calgary's Development Guidelines and Standard Specifications are implemented with high safety, accessibility, quality and efficient maintenance.
- Assist the Senior Water Management Development Coordinator on issues regarding irrigation construction, best management practices, Water Management industry developments and specification issues.
- Advise other business units and Civic partners on irrigation design standard specifications best practices.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year Irrigation diploma and at least 5 years of experience in design and construction of landscape irrigation systems or equivalent; OR
- A degree in Irrigation or Agricultural Engineering and at least 3 years of experience in design and construction of landscape irrigation system or equivalent.
- Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following professional designations: Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC), Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) and Certified Irrigation Designer (CID).
- The ability to read and interpret complex irrigation plans and inspect construction sites is considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong communication skills in order to interpret the needs of a variety of customers and respond to complex submissions and proposals.
- Demonstrated ability to persuade, influence and negotiate with customers, clients and staff along with strong organizational and time management skills.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
