Ground level of any crew member but still a very important and vital to our teams. Labourers are the physical support to landscape technicians, lead hands and foreman. Typically given duties and tasks that may require strength, agility, stamina/grit, basic skills & certifications. Labourers must have the capacity to show up to work on time at any requested work site in the region and stay for the entire workday or until dismissed.
Ideal labourer position candidates understand how construction sites function with a clear understanding of health and safety rules, work site hierarchy, security, company rules and activities. Much of this can be covered in orientations and onsite training. Labourers who excel can work with minimal oversight and follow directions closely while still being safety and efficiency conscious. In time labourers will graduate to a technician status. Labourers can be come valuable experts & masters in a particular task.
RESPONSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Provide labour support as needed for crews.
- Assess safety hazards and issues onsite.
- Perform setup and cleanup tasks at job site.
- Operate basic hand, power tool and small machinery.
- Support tradesman and technicians in more complicated and detailed tasks.
- Work with and around machines – understanding the role of a spotter and how to assist and direct machines safely.
- Help direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists and work crew.
- Dig pits and trenches in preparation for job site construction.
- Move materials & lift heavy loads up to 70 lbs while navigating construction job site terrain.
- Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
- Planting, pruning and mowing of gardens.
- Hardscape works, laying / moving pavers, retaining wall, aggregates and compaction.
- Irrigation & drainage works, cutting and measuring pipe, connecting pipe and parts.
- Back-fill trenches and pits, when necessary, able to grade and level aggregate and soil areas.
PREFFERACE TO:
- High school diploma/GED (preferred)
- 1+ years’ construction industry experience (preferred)
- Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures
- Comfort working in high-stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations.
- Driver’s License
- First-Aid Level 1
- Fall Protection Level 1
- WHIMIS
- Skid steer and mini-excavator experience 1 year - Certifications Preferred.
