Work Arrangements

This temporary full-time (35 hours per week) position is available starting February 6, 2023 to June 30, 2023. Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9:30am - 5:30pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department's need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus. The Role

Coordinates the operation of the Learning Centre and its student assistants at the assigned locations by organizing the delivery of in-house and on-line services and providing a variety of administrative, clerical, systems and instructional support functions as appropriate. The position is responsible for the daily operation of the Centre and the delivery of all Learning Centre services as appropriate, in consultation with the Learning Centre staff and provides exceptional client-centered service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.
Responsibilities

1. Coordinates the delivery of services in the Learning Centre.
a) Organizes the daily delivery of Learning Centre in-house and on-line services by arranging staffing schedules and ensuring that services are available during advertised hours;
b) Supervises student assistants. Performs recruitment, selection and hiring tasks, in consultation with other Learning Centre staff and faculty. Provides orientation and training, schedules work hours, delegates work, monitors progress, evaluates performance and provides support;
c) Provides appropriate support and feedback to students and student assistants. Facilitates the ongoing relationship between tutors (student assistants) and learners;
d) Develops and maintains appointment booking and record keeping system(s) for in-house and on-line services. Books student appointments;
e) Provides guidance, instruction, and assistance to learners on how all Learning Centre services can be accessed and used appropriately;
f) Implements strategies to facilitate student learning, as directed by faculty;
g) Supports faculty in their information needs for developing individual student learning plans;
h) Assists students to resolve learning problems and implement individualized learning plans by providing tutoring, support and feedback.

2. Provides administrative, clerical, systems and instructional support functions.
a) Orders, maintains, and replenishes text materials, technical equipment software, and other supplies; Determines if materials are in appropriate operating condition. Determines probably cause of equipment or system failures, and takes appropriate troubleshooting action. Keeps Learning Centre personnel informed of current status and functionality of equipment and resources;
b) Consults with other Learning Centre personnel in determining technical, systems, material and other needs of the Learning Centre;
c) Demonstrates the appropriate use of computers and other related material;
d) Develops, prepares, and adapts a variety of materials for in-house and on-line Learning Centre use in consultation with other Learning Centre personnel;
e) Researches, designs and produces tutorials and workshops for student and tutor use, in consultation with other Learning Centre personnel;
f) Develops and maintains records ;of use of learning Centre in-house and on-line services. Compiles statistics and provides reports for weekly, semester, and annual reporting;
g) Prepares and presents publicity materials such as posters, advertisements for the student newspaper and other publications and delivers informational presentations to other groups in consultation with other Learning Centre personnel.
h) Facilitates team meetings by preparing agendas and chairing meetings, when required;
i) Supervises and contributes to the Learning Centre social media sites;
j) Updates and revises web content for Learning Centre website.

3. Performs other related duties.
a) Liaises with other departments for communication and shared service delivery
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

1. Completion of a bachelor's degree program from a recognized post-secondary institution with two years related work experience including responsibility for co-ordination and instructional service delivery to clients; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Previous experience and/or training in working with student assistants or peer tutors

3. Good working knowledge of relevant computer hardware and software including use of word processing and spreadsheet software.

4. Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills including written and verbal fluency in the English language.

5. Previous experience and/or training in working with ELL students in an educational context with a flexible and adaptive communication style.

6. Experience tutoring and/or assessing typical learning issues facing student in post-secondary education.

7. Experience with hiring, recruiting, scheduling and evaluation.

8. Record-keeping: recording and reporting statistics

9. A demonstrated ability to: - Communicate courteously and effectively with staff, faculty, administrators, students and the public; as well as well-developed team-work skills.
- Complete tasks and projects in a timely manner.
- To multitask activities and projects in a busy and dynamic environment.
- Work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Establish priorities, achieve deadlines and solve client problems.
- Effectively use computer hardware and software for instructional purposes.
- Show initiative in in problem solving and service development
