LINC CNC Assistant
1 – Permanent Position
Business Development & Community Services
CUPE Local 4400 Funded Unit C – Grade E (School Year)
$23.29 - $27.32 per hour

Reporting to the Program Officer – LINC CNC(Care for Newcomer Children), under day to day
direction and guidance of the LINC CNC Lead, the LINC CNC Assistant will assist in providing a
safe environment for children while parents or guardians attend language classes on site.
Parents/guardians are responsible for the care of their own children when CNC staff are off duty.
Parents/guardians are always at the same site as their children. Care For Newcomer Children is
provided for adult learners’ children, ranging in age from 19 months to 6 years of age.


Summary of Duties:
➢ Supervise children at all program times except when parents/guardians assume supervision
responsibility (e.g., lunch, break);
➢ Interact appropriately with children, individually & in groups;
➢ Encourage children’s interactions with each other and intervene as necessary;
➢ Ensure a program where health and safety rules are met;
➢ Contribute & implement program plans;
➢ Follow program routines;
➢ Observe and share information on children’s behaviour/progress with staff and parents, as
appropriate;
➢ Report problems with the facility to the LINC CNC Lead;
➢ Maintain toys and equipment including inventory and supplies;
➢ Prepare materials and rooms while the children arrive and leave including keeping rooms clean and
in good order;
➢ Maintain related completed forms for children in program;
➢ Prepare written reports, as required; and
➢ Other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
➢ Secondary school diploma and 3 months’ experience working in a CNC (Care for Newcomer
Children) environment, or an equivalent combination of education and childcare experience;
➢ Current First Aid and CPR certification;
➢ Experience caring for pre-school children in a group setting where the parent/guardian or Lead is
immediately available;
➢ Ability to participate in physical activities (e.g., lifting, carrying, etc);
➢ Good oral and written communication skills; and
➢ Ability to communicate effectively with a customer service focus.


Asset:
➢ Working towards ECE diploma.


Location: 685 Sheppard Ave East
Hours: 25 Hours per week to be scheduled according to Program needs (e.g., Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.)


Work Year: 10 Months

Note: This is an externally funded program, dependent on renewal of funding each year, subject to
cancellation by funder with two weeks’ notice. Program presently has funding to March 31, 2024 with
the possibility of an extension.


Paid Holiday & Vacation: Employee entitlement is in accordance with the provisions for Externally
Funded Programs as outlined in the CUPE 4400 C Collective Agreement (Article T and Article U)
