The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is currently accepting applications for the full-time permanent position of Fleet Coordinator. Reporting to the Sergeant in charge of the Traffic Response Unit, the LPS Fleet Coordinator will be responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of the LPS Fleet and equipment.

This new position with the LPS entails liaising with City of Lethbridge Fleet Services, local dealerships and LPS members in coordinating the commissioning, decommissioning, and modification of LPS Fleet vehicles. Under the direction of the Sergeant i/c of Traffic Response Unit, the Fleet Coordinator will be required to assist in developing strategies for planning, organization, and improving overall efficiency of the LPS fleet of vehicles.

The Fleet Coordinator will play in an integral role in managing LPS fleet operations as well as overseeing general maintenance of all vehicles inside and out by ensuring that each unit has all necessary equipment required for a Service vehicle.

This permanent full-time position falls under a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in a number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.

As the Fleet Coordinator you will:

  • Plan and coordinate the commissioning and decommission of LPS vehicles.
  • Coordinate and organize the inventory, maintenance and repair work of all LPS Fleet vehicles
  • Make decisions on urgent requests relating to LPS vehicles.
  • Make Decisions/recommendations on purchasing.
  • Assist Sergeant i/c of the Traffic Response Unit on developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Assist Sergeant i/c of the Traffic Unit on planning, organizing, as well evaluating daily operations/needs.
  • Research/plan/design (Fleet research, data control of around 100 vehicles)
  • Provide recommendations to Sergeant i/c of Traffic Response Unit on purchase decisions for potential new fleet units based on LPS needs/requirements.
  • Attend meetings with City of Lethbridge Fleet or any other outside stakeholders on a regular basis – relaying information back to Sergeant i/c of the Traffic Response Unit (gear reuse, new purchases, new technologies available and vehicle inventory and availability)
  • Manage the Fleet budget of over $1.3 million/ year (acquisitions equipment and maintenance)
  • Work collaboratively at all levels of the organization for needs assessments relating to vehicle and equipment needs.
  • Work daily with Police Vehicle Maintenance Worker
  • Complete other miscellaneous administrative duties as required by the Sergeant i/c of the Traffic Response Unit.
  • Build and manage respectful and productive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Oversee the LPS parkade and parking lot relating to designating parking stalls.
  • Diagnose minor mechanical/maintenance issues and correct them as needed.

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in an automotive trade or a fleet management role is preferred for this position.
  • High school diploma and post secondary education in Business Management or relevant trade
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with LPS staff, city representatives, contractors, and the public.
  • Significant computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize workload and projects.
  • Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of operational needs of law enforcement agency is strongly preferred

Wage: $41.86 per hour |2022 Rate.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

(Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

  6. Successful completion of a polygraph truth verification examination (applicable to applicants outside LPS).
  7. Reference verification of a minimum of three professional references.
  8. A successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.
  9. All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
  10. Duration of the hiring process may take approximately two months.
