III - Journeyman Carpenter

Wage Rate: $35.59 - $39.15, in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement

Summary:
The successful candidate will provide carpentry
services to the Facilities Department, and works under the direction and
supervision of the Director of Facilities.
Duties:
The duties of this position are to include but are not
limited to:
Repairing walls.
Monthly generator, playground and
fire extinguisher checks
Regular maintenance of schools
(hanging banners & pictures)
Unplugging toilets (in emergency
situations)
Repairing flooring and trim
Touch-up painting
Roofing Repairs
Move furniture and stage (heavy
lifting involved)
Assist with minor renovations and
construction projects
Responding to call outs
Other duties as assigned
All of the above duties
require that the employee be able to work on a ladder or scaffolding at any
given time. It is estimated that a carpenter spends an average of 30% of his
time on a ladder. The ability to be able to lift and work with hands above his head
is approximately 60% of the daily duties. The carpenter is also required to
move and work in a crawl space.
The carpenter is also
required to travel to other schools in the Division to perform his/her duties.
Working away from home base represents approximately 30% of the total work
time.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
Posses a valid journeyman's certificate.
Possess a valid Class 5 Driver's license or
higher if required.
Have other valid certificates as
required by Facilities (First Aid, TDG, WHMIS, Fire Extinguishers etc.) would
be an asset.
Technology and computer skills (e-mail,
computerized inventory control programs, computerized maintenance programs,
etc.)
Must be self-motivated,
self-directed with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
Must be able to work with minimal
supervision and as a team player.
Have ability to maintain a high level
of confidentiality.
Have a physical ability to perform the required
duties.
The Division
Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD)
stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and
northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning
Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected
Trustees.
