Overview:
The Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society is offering a unique employment opportunity for a Maintenance Person interested in working within our internationally renowned facility. The Historic Gardens, in addition to our award-winning gardens, maintains two registered heritage properties, a reconstruction of 17th century thatched Acadian house and a variety of other built assets. The Maintenance Person is committed to maintaining our facilities, infrastructure and equipment for the safety and enjoyment of the Historic Gardens by visitors, tenants, volunteers, and staff.
Working under the combined supervision of the Manager and the Horticultural Manager, the Maintenance Person will be responsible for care and upkeep of the buildings, infrastructure and equipment at the Historic Gardens in accordance with annual plans and policy. It is the expectation that in most cases the Maintenance Person would be carrying out the work described, but in some cases the work may be done through contractors. Part of the responsibilities will include assessment of tasks required and recommendation of the most efficient and effective way to accomplish them.
Job Requirements:
· Acceptable level of construction and mechanical knowledge
· Experience in carpentry and other trades involved in typical buildings maintenance (light plumbing and electrical for instance)
· Proper and safe use of tools & equipment, cleaners etc
· Ability to cope with the physical demands of the job and physical ability to lift 50 lbs.
· Enjoy outdoor work, and willing to work in a variety of weather conditions.
· Good interpersonal and communication skills.
· Pride in work and attention to detail.
· Can work well in a team setting and provide supervision to students, volunteers or contractors.
· Self motivated and able to work independently.
· Well organized and able to balance a diverse variety of tasks and projects
· Fall protection certification is required.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Seasonal
Salary: $17.00-$19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 40 per week

- maintenance & repair: 1 year (preferred)
- small engine repair: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
