Position Description

Oberland Agriscience is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. We are focused on closing the food loop in our region and making a positive contribution to our planet. Oberland’s high performing team rears BSFL in our zero-waste facility and delivers exceptional productivity per hectare yielding a nutrient rich, low environmental impact protein. Partnering with local food producers and distributors, Oberland upcycles organic by-products such as spent grains from your favourite craft brewery to grow BSFL on an industrial scale. Oberland continues to play a role in a more sustainable circular economy in our region.

Deploying an organic by-products-to-alternate protein approach, Oberland produces several insect derived products. Oberland generates high quality sustainable protein from larvae and a fertilizer product for home gardens and agricultural lands. #closingthefoodloop

We are in the process of building a new, 100,000 square-foot production facility here in Halifax and are looking for committed and engaged personnel for all areas of our facility to contribute to the safe and reliable operation of this unique and cutting-edge farm and production facility.

The context for the role of Maintenance Supervisor is to ensure an optimally safe, productive and fully functioning facility for Oberland Agriscience’s operations.

Key Support Person: Director of Operations

Functional Responsibilities /Job Duties:

Infrastructure -100%

· Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities

· Coordinate and perform routine inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs

· Ensure maintenance policies and protocols adhere to all regulated requirements

· Collaborate with all departments to address facility-related issues promptly

· Adhere to and reinforce all QMS and all safety policies and procedures

· Develop and manage maintenance budget and manage expenditures

· Develop and maintain records process for maintenance activities including work orders, inspections and repairs

· Collaborate with IT and Database Developer to generate reports on equipment performance, downtime and maintenance performance and costs

· Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in maintenance operations and implement as appropriate

Physical Requirements:

· Able to lift reasonably heavy objects occasionally

· Able to work on your feet for several hours at a time

· Able to work in cramped spaces occasionally

· Good hand dexterity to perform fine motor tasks

To be a great fit for this role you must:

· Be a Red Seal certified electrician

· Have extensive experience maintaining motors

· Have 5+ years’ experience in maintenance role in a food facility

· Have familiarity with PLCs and/or PLC programming and coding skills

· Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and strong technical knowledge of machinery, equipment and facility systems

· Love troubleshooting and developing innovative solutions to complex maintenance issues

· Are able to create strong, trust filled relationships with internal and external colleagues

· Are available 24/7 or coordinate someone to be in your absence
