Community Living Port Colborne-Wainfleet (CLPCW) is a non-profit and progressive organization employing over 150 staff who deliver support to over 200 people with intellectual disabilities. Our organization has a proud 60-year history of providing developmental services and inclusive programs within the communities we serve.
Job Scope:
Reporting to the Director, Operations, we are seeking a self-directed, motivated individual to assist our organization. The Maintenance Worker is responsible for basic maintenance and repairs of the organization’s administration facility, including interior and exterior and nine (9) group homes.
Qualifications:
- College Diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Construction Engineering Technician certificate an asset
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- A valid Class "G" driver’s license.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate basic computer software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and to conduct research using the internet.
- Five (5) years of related experience in a maintenance/ general labour position
- Previous supervisory, leadership and project coordination experience including planning, coordinating, organizing and delegating work of internal staff and external contractors an asset
- Related experience in project coordination, planning, staffing, budgeting, preparing reports and maintaining records.
- Ability to deal with staff/residents/visitors/public with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
- Must be familiar with buildings and building systems.
- Must have experience and be familiar with building, plumbing, electrical and gas codes and have detailed knowledge of electrical, heating, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, welding and fabrication trades with respect to operational, maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
- Detail oriented and ability to work to tight timelines
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise personnel or contract workers who are assigned to maintenance by being directly involved in the delegating and supervising the quality of work assigned to staff, ensuring the workers are following safe working practices while in the homes and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Maintain buildings, equipment and furniture by developing a work schedule and prioritizing maintenance needs across the organization using CLPCW’s website as a resource.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan and review it on an annual basis by conducting on-site tours of all buildings and properties, making written reports on areas of need, development and maintenance as required.
- Support the organization by maintaining records and correspondence on the maintenance of the buildings/facilities, developing and maintaining a recording system and filing all correspondence related to maintenance. Report on the status of repairs to Managers when requested
- Participate in capital projects and other special projects as assigned
- Consult with contractors for quotes (heating, plumbing, etc.), maintenance upkeep for appliances and annual inspections.
- Maintain a record of inventory for the workshop, van, boiler room and storage bi-annually
- Monitor and control all expenditures through organizational approval processes. Receive and process payables for payment to contractors.
- Reconcile monthly credit card statement and submit receipts accordingly
- Perform furnace filter checks monthly, replace as required
- Install, uncover and store air conditioner units
* Work schedule: Monday - Friday (evening and weekends for emergency situations)
