Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis contributes to the organization by leading the development of multi-sourced enterprise reporting for Wawanesa's Executive team. They use data components and information management systems to organize data and apply technology which presents information in a summarized, integrated, and visually appealing solution for decision making.
The Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis reviews all enterprise data sources and architectures, along with external data sources, to maximize the potential of these data assets. They promote clarity and efficiency in using data to drive decision-making and are an advocate and facilitator of developing information literacy.
This role further supports FP&A by assisting with the management of Balanced Scorecards and alignment of organizational activities with corporate strategies.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting Design for the Executive Team
- Works with business leaders to identify leading indicators which measure business plans, goals, and outcomes.
- Summarizes data and reporting priorities across all corporate functions and focuses efforts on the most critical opportunities which align with corporate strategy.
- Connects common Property & Casualty insurance metric standards (claims ratio, expense ratio, combined ratio, underwriting gain/loss, etc.) across the entire organizational reporting environments with leading and lagging indicators and metrics.
- Designs reporting solutions which are seamlessly integrated across multiple distribution methods (Dossier, Dashboard, PDF report, etc.).
- Produces reporting output which is carefully laid out, follows a logical flow for decision making, and is visually appealing for an Executive audience.
- Guide developers to implement reporting solution design.
- Assist developers with quality assurance and provide guidance on reasonableness of various metrics to streamline development.
Measurement, Reporting, and Data Architecture Leadership
- Evaluates and recommends changes to cost savings and revenue generation models from various corporate functions and consolidates them into bottom line impact
- Recommends, reviews, and approves educational and training content for executive reporting solutions which is appropriately designed for the audience.
- Combines data from existing operational databases, data warehouses, metadata, and external industry data in seamless multi-sourced reporting solutions.
- Identifies and recommends technologies to use on various projects while taking into account their performance, price, and service agreements
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend changes to reporting environments and data architecture to optimize reporting consistency and data quality. Leverage data modeling experience to organize data sources to minimize the cost of storage and replication.
Data Governance and Vision
- Represents Financial Planning & Analysis within the corporate Data Governance framework and enterprise data policies.
- Contributes to the enterprise vision on information access and data storage.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5 Years experience in a Financial Planning & Analysis or other similar leadership role delivering solutions to senior management teams including database design
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics (actuarial or otherwise), or a degree in another related field
- Conversant in ETL, BI, and database technology including applications such as; SQL Server, Oracle, Hadoop, Tableau, MicroStrategy.
- Deep understanding of common data sources, metrics, and KPI's that business and financial leaders analyze to meet organizational objectives.
- Solid time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong presentation and collaboration skills and the ability to communicate all aspects of the process with peers as well as end users.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Understanding of software development lifecycles/methodologies i.e. agile.
- Experience in defining and organizing metrics and KPI's specific to Property & Casualty insurance in as asset.
- Advanced analyticalskills and familiarity with forms of analysis such as; time series analysis, clustering, decision trees, and neural networks, etc. is an asset.
