Location is flexible, within Alberta, dependent on the successful applicant.

However, periodically may be asked to work in Lacombe or other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC's Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.

Reporting to the Vice President Finance and Controller ("VP Finance"), the Manager, Financial Reporting is primarily responsible for supporting the VP Finance by ensuring that the key functions and services of the finance department are effectively carried out. This will be achieved by providing guidance and direction to reports and a hands-on approach to planning, coordination, and execution on deliverables, problem solving, as well as internal and external communications.

What will your growth opportunities look like in this role?

  • This role will provide the opportunity to coach, develop, and lead an experienced finance team with responsibilities that require engagement with all elements of AFSC's service offerings.
  • You will frequently engage with senior management to ensure that our Financial Reporting, budgeting, and planning reflect the business activities and forward outlook of each division.
  • The information you report, and the financial outlook generated by you and your team will be used at all levels of the organization for guiding decisions and understanding the financial health of the organization.
  • There will be many opportunities to be involved with special projects, to creatively solve problems, and to find innovative solutions to continually improve our organization.
  • You will interact regularly with provincial and federal finance personnel to ensure transparency and accuracy of our financial interactions with these key stakeholders.

What will you be responsible for?

  • You'll be responsible for ensuring that our financial statements are accurate and comprehensive which meet our highest standards of reporting and disclosure.
  • You will oversee the financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes for the entire organization.
  • You'll support the development and implementation of the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting Framework.
  • In concert with the VP Finance, you will be responsible for ensuring that we are responsive to and completely transparent with internal and external auditors.
  • You'll be responsible for ensuring that the processes and policies of the finance team are continually evolving to meet the needs of our clients, stakeholders, and AFSC.
  • Your team will administer the payables and receivable activities of AFSC including movement of fund requirements for our lending and business risk management services.

  • You are proficient in accounting matters, experienced with the many facets and responsibilities of a finance team, and balance the need to do a deep dive with the importance of demonstrating trust and effective delegation when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of a University Bachelor's Degree
  • A relevant professional designation (CPA) is preferred
  • 7+ years experience
  • Public sector accounting experience beneficial
  • SAP and/or accounting software knowledge
