SMS Equipment Inc. & TransWestMongolia are looking for an ambitious, business oriented, accounting professional for an opportunity to work in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia! Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Technical Manager, Financial Reporting holds a pivotal role in overseeing all facets of monthly, quarterly, and yearly Financial Reporting, including associated shareholder reporting.
The primary objective is to develop and maintain robust accounting procedures, practices, and principles, ensuring the timely and precise preparation of financial statements. Overall, this role plays a crucial part in maintaining the financial health of the organization by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in Financial Reporting processes. It involves a dynamic blend of leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on involvement in the evolving landscape of accounting standards and organizational needs.
The successful candidate has the option to relocate to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on a term basis or work a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel internationally.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead, mentor, and manage department staff to foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Manage and Oversee Technical Accounting Functions such as Company-Wide Month-End Reporting and Year-End Closure, Shareholder Reporting, Intercompany Accounting Transactions, Detailed Accounting Treatments on Operational Activities (work in progress, parts reserves and write downs, warranty accounts, etc.)
- Ensure and evaluate current process and practices to comply with IFRS.
- Cash Management Oversight: Oversee weekly cash management with the Finance team and AP team, approving large payables and preparing large wires.
- Direct and execute internal and external audits of financial data and reports.
- Support the annual budget process and financial forecasting planning.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to lead and mentor others. An accounting designation with strong audit and IFRS knowledge, as well as a minimum of 1 year leadership experience is required.

Other qualifications include:
- Qualified CPA, CA, CPTA and/or ACCA
- Minimum 1 working in a supervisory capacity in an accounting and audit environment with the ability to manage a team of different backgrounds/level of knowledge/skillsets.
- Must have expert level of knowledge in IFRS application.
- Working knowledge and experience with SOX, JSOX experience is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of audit experiences with a large portfolio of backgrounds in industry such as heavy equipment distribution/mining/construction industries is preferred.
- International tax framework / transfer pricing general framework working knowledge is considered as an asset.
- Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage time and adhere to strict deadlines and budget.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to learn with an appreciation for diversity and working with different cultures.
