Reporting to the General Manager, the Manager - Mining is responsible for managing safe and efficient mine operations. Managing all mine production activities including production, staffing, budgeting, cost control and profitability. Evaluates geological and engineering information and provides direction in the development of mine plans. Works with the management team to develop the overall strategy for the mine.
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the mine operations team.
- Develop and implement operational plans to achieve production targets and meet quality standards.
- Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and optimize mining processes to maximize production efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Set production targets and monitor their achievement and correct or address issues as they arise.
- Implement best practices for ore extraction.
- Review reports and records and make the necessary decisions to optimize Mine Operations.
- Oversee the allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Develop and manage operational budgets to control costs and improve profitability.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable mining practices.
- Establish and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
- Stay abreast of industry regulations and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Recruit, train, and mentor a skilled and motivated operations team.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work culture that encourages professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Liaise with other departments, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, safety metrics, and operational challenges.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in mining operations, with a proven track record of leadership.
- Strong knowledge of mining processes, equipment, and technology.
- Excellent understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software and technologies used in mine operations.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans and provide sound technical expertise related to mine design and ground control issues.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines.
- Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
- Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
- Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
- Start up experience an asset.
- Ability to create a world class Mine Operations department.
