Department Information
The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Job Information
You would be responsible for the development of the GNWT's compensation philosophy, strategic collective bargaining decisions and recommendations affecting the terms and conditions of employment for 5500 public sector employees, including Deputy Ministers and physicians. You would also be responsible for the establishment and promotion of harmonious and constructive labour - management and employee - management practices in the areas of bargaining, essential and emergency services, job action contingency planning, and compensation, throughout the Government.
In order to succeed in this job, you would have proven client service orientation and human relations skills. You would also have knowledge of labour law, employment, Human Rights precedents and case law, and their integration and effect on other human resource functions. Finally, you would have a relevant degree and a minimum of six years of recent directly related experience, including at least three years in a senior role in an employee relations environment, experience as lead representative in collective bargaining, and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
