As the Cathedral church of the Diocese of British Columbia in the Anglican Church of Canada, Christ Church Cathedral has great historical and architectural value to the city of Victoria.
The Cathedral is seeking a part-time Manager of Accounting to be an essential member of the Cathedral staff as it addresses present and future change and growth. This position is ideal for an individual looking for manageable hours and workload and a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities:
Maintains complete and accurate records and prepares monthly, quarterly and annual statements
· Supervises the Bookkeeper, an hourly role that codes and enters transactions to Quickbooks, produces cheques and reconciles the bank accounts, and the volunteer Envelope Secretary, who enters all donor data to the PowerChurch system, produces quarterly reports and annual tax receipts to donors
· Makes the bi-weekly payroll and monthly realized investment income entries
· Monitors cash flow and bank activity weekly
· Monitors the investment portfolio
· Prepares accounts for external accounting firm to produce annual compilation
· Monitors the effectiveness of internal controls
· Manages the production of quarterly donor reports and annual donor tax receipts
· Reports regularly to internal parish bodies, and to relevant external entities, e.g. Synod Office, CRA
· Provides advice and support to Dean & Wardens, Finance Committee, Treasurer and Cathedral Council regarding the financial management of the parish, including preparation of annual budgets, business plans, pledge monitoring, etc., and major financial initiatives, e.g. deficit reduction, regular and special stewardship campaigns, precinct renewal, etc.
The preferred candidate will possess these attributes:
- Current and extensive knowledge and experience with Quickbooks
- Knowledge and experience with Excel spreadsheets
- Knowledge and experience with budgets and preparation of year-end accounting
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Detail oriented with strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, preferably with a current or previous accounting designation
- Experience with not-for-profit accounting is desirable
