Manager of Payroll and Benefits
Nanaimo Ladysmith Public schools (NLPS) is seeking a dynamic leader to join our organization as Manager of Payroll & Benefits . Your role and responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Secretary Treasurer, the Manager of Payroll & Benefits provides effective leadership to the staff within the department and is responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant administration of the district’s Payroll and Benefits programs in accordance with district policies and procedures, collective agreements, Federal and Provincial legislation and other relevant regulations.
The incumbent is also responsible for the coordination of employee benefit plans district-wide including the administration and design of benefit programs, the maintenance, confidentiality and retention of employee benefit records as well as ensuring the timely reconciliation and remittance of benefit premiums.
Salary Range: $91,480 - $114,351 per annum
Your Qualifications and Experience
Completion of the CPA Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) Program as well as continued maintenance of this professional designation by meeting the annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements as set out by the Canadian Payroll Association
5 to 7 years of progressive, senior level Payroll and Benefits experience with a complex computerized payroll system in a union environment, preferably in a school district, including a minimum of three years’ experience in accounting practices. Post- secondary accounting credits or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
Excellent working knowledge of legislation and regulations related to Payroll and Benefits as well as the ability to interpret and use judgment in the application of various acts and regulations
Proven and effective leadership skills with a focus on team building and collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Knowledge of privacy legislation and regulations as well as the policies and administrative practices required to protect personal information
Experience or training with project management and change management would be considered an asset
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Superior analytical aptitude with proven problem solving skills
Highly ethical and trustworthy
Extensive knowledge and experience with Excel
Ability to identify and set priorities, organize, plan and schedule diverse tasks to ensure the orderly and accurate completion of work in accordance with competing deadlines and requirements
Working knowledge of office procedures and standard office equipment including personal computers and office software
