Sunbelt Rentals--the fastest growing rental business in North America--is seeking a Manager, Payroll Processing – Canada. As a Manager, Payroll Processing, you will support the Human Resources Department in the administration of payroll and benefits functions, as well as file management and department reports.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supervising, implementing, and processing the payroll for the Company, including, bi-weekly, and paycheque processing, database entry and auditing for approximately 2500 employees in Canada.
  • Ensures compliance with all appropriate national, provincial, and local withholding regulations by keeping abreast of tax changes and regulations to advise management of implementation implications.
  • Ensures the accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports, timesheets, spreadsheets, funds distribution to comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Provides periodic analysis of payroll and disbursement records to ensure that adjustments are in accord with management’s criteria
  • Provides on-going assistance to employees in tax-related payroll matters
  • Responds to inquiries and/or requests for data and/or reports
  • Manages the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents (overpayments, 409A distributions, payroll registers, stop payments) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues; meeting compliance requirements and providing audit references
  • Manages the security and distribution of all check stock and electronic payroll distribution cards
  • Manages and reconciles monthly, quarterly, and annual profit share payments, quarterly and annual auto imputed income, relocation payments, travel awards and periodic taxable fringe payments.
  • Researches discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
  • Verifies a variety of payroll related information (e.g. time sheets, salary adjustments, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate distribution of funds and payroll.
  • Supervises assigned personnel (including training, evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring that department outcomes are achieved.
  • Communicates with a wide variety of internal and external parties (city/national/provincial agencies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate processing of payroll deductions/garnishments
  • Performs other related duties as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field or equivalent experience plus 5-8 years of prior Payroll experience.
  • At least 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Knowledge of Quebec Payroll required.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll-related laws.
  • Experience in administering a group benefits plan.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and ability to learn other software applications as integrated or required.
  • Workday experience preferred.
  • Prior Human Resources and Customer Services experience preferred.
  • HR or Payroll certification preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Take responsibility and ownership of all assigned tasks, ensuring regular updates and completion timelines are effectively communicated to senior management.
  • Proactive, adaptable, team player who thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized while meeting multiple demands.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proven discretion in handling confidential matters.
  • Bilingual (French/English) an asset.
