Job description

Artemis Gold Inc., listed on the TSX Venture exchange, is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financial capacity aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is construction of the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.

You will make a significant impact, working with the Construction team to lead and guide excellence in permitting implementation, engagement, compliance and reporting for the mine while also supporting the company’s environmental, social and governance initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President, Environment and Social Responsibility, this full-time and permanent position will be responsible for environmental aspects of the mine, including development and implementation of related systems and plans, and working closely to support the site team. The successful candidate will play a lead role in ongoing the mine permitting efforts (amendments and permitting required for future phases of the mine). A strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship is essential for success in this role. The role will be based in Vancouver.

Scope of Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Lead (internal and external) environmental and regulatory compliance oversight function, including a follow up auditing/compliance review

- Support compliance with regulatory requirements, including attendance of regulatory compliance inspections and preparing associated responses or reports as may be required

-Lead engagement with Indigenous Nations on environmental and regulatory matters, including representing BW Gold on related committees and boards

-Prepare necessary reports to meet annual and other periodic regulatory and community reporting requirements (including reporting to Indigenous partners)

· Lead corporate permitting initiatives, for construction (including future construction phases), operations-phase and exploration permitting

-Work with the site team to identify any amendments required to existing permits in order to assist with construction or operations

-Identify any permits or amendments required for mine optimization and future development phases

-Lead engagement with Indigenous Nations on permitting initiatives

-Manage consultant resources (budget, quality, schedules, etc) required to support permitting initiatives

-Support implementation of regulatory obligations, including but not limited to permit conditions and environmental management plans

-Manage environmental projects, which may include (and not limited to) fish and wetlands offsetting; transmission line construction compliance oversight

-Lead engagement with Indigenous Nations on environmental and regulatory matters, including representing BW Gold on related committees and boards

- Collaborate with the community relations team to provide technical feedback to Indigenous and non-Indigenous community consultation initiatives

-Manage consultant resources (budget, quality, schedules, etc) required to support environmental and regulatory implementation

-Development and implementation of an environmental management system that ensures compliance with all corporate environmental standards and government regulations

-Collect relevant information and data for entry into the environmental management system that facilitates all required reporting while also considering future ESG Reporting requirements

-Lead tracking, reviewing and reporting on regulatory requirements

-Implementation and adherence to environmental and social commitments, including compliance/ sustainability assurance and reporting

-Support the implementation of benefit agreements and other commitments with Indigenous Nations, including employment, education and training initiatives

-Foster and maintain points of contact and good relations with Provincial and Federal regulators

-Act as project manager on annual reporting deliverables to ensure reporting requirements meet the required deadlines

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years’ progressive experience in management of environmental aspects for a mine, including demonstrated experience in performing this function at a mine site
  • Candidates with a professional BC designation such as PEng, PGeo, RPBio are strongly preferred
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a combination of education and experience could be considered preferably in a mining environment with experience in regulatory approvals and Compliance programs, experience with environmental monitoring databases, software and Compliance programs
  • Knowledge of the various technical processes associated with a mining/process operation and implementation of industry standard environmental mitigation measures required. Knowledge of water treatment for mine contact waters and aquatic related disciplines is an asset
  • Strong communication, technical writing and presentation skills, particularly in presenting technical information in plain language
  • Strong project management skills
  • Knowledge of BC and Canadian environmental assessment legislation, BC Mines Act, BC Water Sustainability Act, BC Environmental Management Act, federal Fisheries Act, or other applicable legislation is an asset
  • Ability to gain stakeholder cooperation and support through discussion and negotiations
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and able to travel throughout the region including periodic overnight stays as required
  • Must be able to work out of Vancouver Corporate office full time
  • Frequent travel to the mine site will be required to ensure positive relationships and integration between site team and the corporate teams and oversee the internal and external permitting requirements
