The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), this role serves as a key connection between the Town of Caledon and the public providing strategic advice, communication planning, and stakeholder management to the CAO. This position will require a combination of communication expertise, political awareness, and in-depth understanding of community relations and local government functions.

As the Manager, Public Affairs & External Relations, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance public awareness and understanding of Town policies, programs, services and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive Public Affairs strategies to enhance the organization's reputation and brand.
  • Advise the CAO and Leadership Team on public opinion, community concerns, and communication tactics.
  • Horizon scan for upcoming policy developments and activities and maintain a Public Affairs schedule.
  • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment to inform Town strategies and response. Monitor and analyze public opinion and legislative developments that may impact the organization's operations or public image.
  • Coordinate with different departments to ensure consistent messaging and information dissemination.
  • Plan and supervise public events, such as town hall meetings, public forums, and information sessions.
  • Prepare speeches, presentations, and briefing materials for the CAO and other key Town personnel.
  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively, working to resolve issues and improve community relations.
  • Foster relationships with community groups, businesses, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary education in Communication, Public Relations, Political Science, Journalism or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 10 years progressive experience in in Public Affairs, communications, or a related field within government or a public sector.

The successful candidate for Manager, Public Affairs & External Relations will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $122,330.85 - $149,916.40 plus a competitive benefit package.
