Department OverviewA key objective of RRM is to deliver Canadian Retail Expected Credit Loss (ECL) results to support external financial disclosures and to forecast loss performance. Our IFRS9 compliant ECL is designed to ensure that the Bank has appropriate reserves for credit losses, sensitive to the current and future macroeconomic environment. Job DetailsThe incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Calculating the Canadian Retail ECL quarterly forecast and annual Plan under the IFRS9 standard and ensuring it reflects the expected losses for the current year and three years following, and preparing the relevant management reports to explain the drivers forecast to Sr. Management.
  • Coordinating the forecast and Plan with the Product Risk teams to ensure forecasts and Plan are consolidated accurately to obtain the Canadian Retail view, and ensuring it reflects the best estimate of ECL under the current environment.
  • Present the forecast to senior management and product risk teams, explaining how the performing forecast was derived and provide any relevant analysis of drivers to explain the variances.
  • Write commentary and provide clear explanations
  • Creating analytics to understand the key drivers of the forecast and Plan, including risk parameters, management overlays, and delinquencies.
  • Understanding Retail Credit Products and the statistical models used to derive their expected credit loss. Additionally, ensuring that relevant governance and controls around the forecasting methodology are maintained.
  • Ownership of meeting timelines and assisting in establishing key deliverable targets
  • Create meaningful analytics that provide management with insights into statistical models key drivers, and assisting in the quarterly ECL process.
  • Other Reporting & Analysis include:
    • Delivery of annual Risk Appetite metrics for reporting to the Board, and coordinating with Risk Product teams.
    • Working with our Retail Risk Management partners to research and develop value added analysis such as peer analysis or insolvencies, or specific analytics related to product..
    • Ability to work with large and complex data infrastructures as well as problem solve various data issues.
    • Reporting on peer results and analytics as it relates to ECLs
Job Requirements
  • Post secondary degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, Accounting and Finance.
  • Knowledge of IFRS 9 is a definite asset, and knowledge of allowance calculation and forecasting/planning.
  • Excellent working knowledge and hands-on experience using SAS and SQL in the context of data manipulation, data mining, and analysis
  • Advance skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Solid time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders including Sr. Executive and Risk Product teams, Model Development, and Model Validation.
  • Able to learn new concepts and techniques quickly
  • Knowledge in retail banking products is a definite asset
  • Must be a good team player
