As a Risk and Control Analyst, you will contribute to the overall success of the Global Wealth Management (GWM) business ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The incumbent will be focused on covering non-financial risk areas to ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Conduct and/or facilitate risk assessments, understand risk data, monitor, and understand pertinence of risk indicators based on the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF)
- Work closely with the Senior Manager on various operational risk management programs work streams (e.g., New Initiative Risk Assessments, Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators), including identifying, documenting, and monitoring new initiatives, processes, procedures, risks, and Controls
- Maintain and enhance the risk management information system to catalogue risks and Controls, monitor progress, and report on the effectiveness of management's mitigation efforts
- Assist with periodic (e.g., monthly, quarterly) update on operational risk management programs to Senior Management and assist the team with Committee and Board reporting
- Assist in the execution of Scotiabank's Third-Party Risk Management Policy for GWM businesses to identify,assess, mitigate, and monitor outsourcing risks, including providing TPRM systems support, inherent risk identification and due diligence support, while providing key oversight functions and program assurance
- Assist Senior Manager with operational risk issues tracking and monitoring by proactively reaching out to issue owners, collecting periodic updates and review of closure packages
- Support other projects and activities as required
- Contribute to the success of the GWM Regulatory Initiatives team, building strong business relationships with internal stakeholders and demonstrating strong individual initiative and discipline
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Undergraduate degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably within wealth management and/or banking
- Prior experience in operational risk, compliance, regulatory reform initiatives, internal audit, third party risk management is an asset
- Working knowledge of regulatory bodies including OSFI, OSC, IIROC, and MFDA
- Proficient knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Power BI
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to liaise with internal stakeholders and recommend control and process improvements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiating and well-developed influencing skills
- Relationship building competencies to build/maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders and business unit partners
- Effective time management skills and proven track record of meeting deliverables
- Must be a team player with the willingness to take on additional projects and responsibilities to achieve the group's overall objectives and goals
