Our System Modeling team is at the forefront of the development of computer modeling techniques and algorithms in support of the development of the Lightspeed System Model, a state-of-the-art engineering software tool running on high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for the modeling of the Lightspeed constellation. The team's responsibilities covers several key system aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation. As a Manager of the System Modeling team, the selected candidate will lead all technical aspects of the development of the System Model, contribute to the identification and development of key concepts in relation with the Lightspeed system as a whole and in coordination with the System Design and System Engineering teams, ensure team cohesion and workflow optimization following Agile principles, and coordinate with the Product Owner and Scrum Master in planning and prioritizing development tasks. In addition, the selected candidate will coordinate with the Software Development team to efficiently integrate new algorithms and support the upgrade of existing algorithms.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of operational concepts and algorithms in the System Model in all relevant aspects of the Lightspeed system such as end-to-end communications, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.
  • Participate in the management of the development of the Constellation Network Operating System including any dependencies on the System Model
  • Establish and maintain efficient collaboration and workflow within the System Modeling team, following Agile principles
  • Collaborate with the System Design and System Engineering teams on key system design decisions
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to all team members, and propose appropriate training as needed
  • Coordinate with the Software Development team to efficiently integrate new algorithms, support the upgrade of existing algorithms and generally support any dependencies against the System Model
  • Interface with other teams to successfully integrate the System Model into business applications as required
  • Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Contribute to the identification and ranking of technical risks related to the Lightspeed system design and to the development of mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed
  • Lead the production of any associated technical documentation

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in satellite system (or other complex engineering system) modeling and design
  • Advanced coding skills and experience in Matlab and other programming languages
  • Experience with Agile methodology

  • Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.
