The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Manager of the Pediatric OR and the Clinical Leaders of Pediatric Perioperative Services, the Material & Equipment Coordinator is responsible for the co-ordination of an effective and efficient purchasing and inventory program for supplies, equipment and services for the Operating Rooms of the IWK Health Centre Children’s Health Program, including requisitioning medical surgical supplies, instruments, implants, loaner equipment and consignment items.  Is responsible for receiving and storage of supplies.  The Materials and Equipment Coordinator collaborates with the Purchasing Department to ensure the procurement of goods and services is being performed in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Purchasing department.  Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to; Ensuring the specific needs of the OR are met in the most efficient manner possible by establishing and maintaining an OR Inventory System; Constantly monitors stock and non-stock spplies with the intent of streamlining the number and types of products acquired; Facilitates Loaning/borrowing and returning of supplies and equipment from within Health Centre/ Vendors or other facilities; Communicate with Manager and /or Clinical Leader with regards to significant spending: spinal implants, instrument purchases and repair, autologous bone,tissue grafts, and other specific high cost products; Liaises with Purchasing Department to provide accurate, current pricing information to the OR’s for operating and capital equipment budget items; Initiates, and manages purchase requisition orders for OR and Anesthesia (including  evaluation/no charge/sample/repairs/loaner) daily for OR; Obtain vendor quotes for capital equipment and expendable budget requests; Coordination, communication and liaison with vendors regarding any supply or equipment issues and Management of consignment, direct and special order items for the Operating Room.

Coverage required Monday – Friday
Your Qualifications
• Grade 12 diploma or GED required
• Two year Community College Diploma in Business Administration/IT program and a minimum of 6 months previous work experience in a similar role required.  An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
• Purchasing designation/diploma would be considered an asset.
• Demonstrates high degree of independent decision-making, self-direction, motivation, change-management knowledge and team building/leadership skills.
• Previous Operating Room or SPD experience preferred.
• Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets and Meditech an asset. 
• Materials management software knowledge an asset.
• Demonstarted and/or experience with SAP an asset.
• Proven communication and decision-making skills required and ability to plan ahead for equipment needs as per OR booked cases.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
