GENERAL SUMMARY

The Materials Planner is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of planning systems and processes to meet inventory control and inventory reduction goals. The Materials Planner is also responsible for ensuring the availability of all necessary materials required to support the manufacturing process in order to meet shipment and on time delivery goals. This position provides backup support for the other planner positions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Process sales orders for scheduling into the production backlog and acknowledgement of the delivery schedule to the customer.
  • Direct and/or assist in the execution of production activities that enable the on time delivery and meeting commitments made to our customer.
  • Create and maintain production/fab schedules for project orders, as required.
  • Support E & O reduction by maintaining proper inventory levels of manufactured parts and substitutions of all inventory.
  • Review and close production orders from the machine shop and assembly and investigate production orders and projects that are not completed in a timely fashion.
  • Perform special activities such as system improvement, training of employees, consulting and involvement in new initiatives, participate in and lead meetings and SOE pre-ordering
  • Generate serialized (metal) tags to accompany Job Packs.
  • Prepare QA documents, as required and process any paperwork required for initiating NCRs.
  • Manage new design and production phase in plan as well as phase out of old design while incorporating a spares and replacement strategy when applicable.
  • Determine and discuss with supervisor any potential process improvements.
  • Participate in and provide assistance with the annual physical inventory count.
  • Investigate inventory count discrepancies through review of inventory transactions and physical counts for all product groups and reconcile as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • College degree in materials management, APICS certified or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience with an MRP system (3 years).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITLIES

  • Technical capability to read/understand drawings and machine shop processes.
  • Valve knowledge would be an asset.
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Excel, Word.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with people at all levels of business.
  • Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (with minimal supervision).
  • Excellent personal discipline and work ethic with respect to time and attendance.
  • A positive “let’s do it” attitude.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a team building environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Qualified individual should be able to communicate in written, oral and computer form; must be able to see and move throughout plant in order to resolve work problems and facilitate processes; repetitive motion activities may involve computer keyboard operation. May have contact with caustic substances in some areas of plant.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
